Thanks for your input, ecocpa.

The ability to add journal entries to the reports in QuickBooks Online is currently unavailable. I'll make sure to take note of your request and forward this to our developers.

I'll update this thread once there are any changes with your recommendation.

Oh wow, this is very disappointing. I had heard great things from a friend, but saw 3 out of 5 star reviews on website, and now I understand why. Just chiming in to continue for support for a fix, considering I trusted my friend's opinion. This is quite annoying.... and a huge over sight by the product team.

After already paying for 3 months on QBO, I spent hours learning how to use it only to just now find this out.

As with everyone else here, I'm beyond pissed. This makes QB WORTHLESS to me. I've already had issues figuring out how to import my Etsy transactions (since I want the features of QBO, not the Self-employed version) and now I can't even see my sales?! WTF QB!

Given that this thread is a year old and I'm CERTAIN it's not the first time it's been mentioned, HOW HAS THIS NOT BEEN FIXED YET?!

I've already submitted "Feedback" on QB so spare me the reply with that. Fat lot of good it does, clearly.

It is beyond ridiculous that this is not fixed yet. Sales should be sales. Period. Unfortunately, for some reason, QuickBooks is still the industry standard. Looks like they are ripe to be picked off by any sane developer with a grasp of the English language and standard accounting practices.

I await the day I can see my sales on the cool widget ya'll probably invested a lot of time, energy and dozens of meetings inventing.

Aug 9, 2020 and this issue still seems not to have been resolved. I am deeply saddened to see that quickbooks has not found this oversight as an important urgent need to correct issue.  I hope that they maybe able to get this to work at some point. Seems like they are missing out on just how important this is.

Hi QBO,

I too am deeply disappointed this hasn't been fixed yet.  Not only does sales not appear in the dashboard, but it doesn't total in the tax report either.  This means that I have to run the profit report to view my total sales, before I prepare my taxes.

I would really appreciate this being fixed asap.  It's pretty disconcerting to see major errors such as this, because it leads me to think there are mistakes in how I am tracking things in your software.

Thanks

Tim

100% of our sales are via bank deposits. When I look at the dashboard, it says we have no sales. I also can't create a report by payer.  It makes no sense. I've been puzzled by this for over a year, and just recently found this sad and ridiculous thread.  If Steve Jobs ran this company, he would fire a lot of people immediately.

I have the same problem.  Sales not showing dashboard and 2 visits in chat and one phone session for a total of 3 support sessions with QB support could not identify the problem or fix it.  The quality of support with QB is well below average at best.

That is false as QB can't fix my dashboard for sales as most of our income comes from bank deposits identified as "SALES" but QB still won't count them as sales on dashboard.

Support can't fix the problem either

No your suggestion results in "this report does not contain any data" however, sales data does exist for this month but not being recognized by qb reports.

Still not working

So our company is out of luck because we don't invoice but sales are derived from Credit Card, checks, paypal and venmo?

If true how shortsighted can intuit be?

Hi GCurry,

I'd like to share information on why we cannot produce a sales report from bank deposits.

Only sales transactions such as invoices and sales receipts are reported as sales. Bank deposits are not included, even if you categorize them as Sales. The Sales is just a category name and doesn't represent the Sale transaction type, and it can be renamed at any time.

In addition, not all deposits that are classified as income are considered sales. Some of which may be from interest income or other forms of income. That is why it isn't ideal to take sales data from bank deposits. However, you can always run the Profit and Loss report to see how much you have accumulated for your Sales category. You can also click its value to see the list of transactions under it.

Another reason is a type of bank deposit transaction that is usually reported on the Balance Sheet.

Let me know if you have other questions about bank reports or transactions.

Hi JessT -

Thanks for the explanation, but it sounds more like an explanation of QB's internal technical limitations than an actual solution.  It's sort of like, "I'm sorry that the software doesn't do what it's supposed to do, but let me explain why...."

Hope you will eventually figure out how to get the software to do what it's supposed to do, like having items categorized as "sales" appear in a sales report.  Wow... what a radical concept!

I have sales income but it does not show up on the dashboard as sales. Why

Just joined at the cheapest subscription level yesterday and stumbled upon this channel to see how to populate my sales chart only to discover the Intuit  employees are telling paid users since 2018 to post feedback so this stupid chart on this stupid overpriced software can populate sales revenues. Thank god I have real software to do this. I would love to dump this software in the garbage but it's the only way I can get an idea of my income and expenses (P&L) that my bank will not categorize. Overpriced. I wish they'd stop trying to sell you more crap within the app with repeated attempts to up-sell you on more crap developed by engineers who don't have a clue about how businesses are run.

Thanks for joining the thread, @ymcgarry1. I'll share an insight on your query about your concern with QuickBooks Online.

As mentioned by my colleagues, the dashboard sales summary is based on the sales transactions in your account for the period specified (invoices and sales receipts). This will not include journal entries and bank deposits. However, it's counted on your Profit & Loss report.

That said, only sales transactions such as invoices and sales receipts are reported as sales.

Otherwise, I’d recommend sending feedback by following the steps given by my colleagues above.

Additionally, you can always visit this link to know more about the introduction to the home dashboard of QBO.

Thanks for your understanding and patience while we look into this. You can always reply or reach out to us again if you need anything else. We're always here to guide and assist whenever you need help. Have a good one!

I’m shocked(as a new user )to find that QuickBooks is worthless to me since it doesn’t track the income properly.

What a handicap for such a renown company!!! Seriously what are you thinking not fixing this childish feature.

unfortunately, I’m out, Freshbooks will be my next option. Or until I find one that understands income!

pissed off customer here = horrible word of mouth

Another year has gone by without a fix.  If there is some kind of accounting rule that is forcing Quickbooks NOT to count transactions classified as Sales in the sales chart, then explain it.  Please do NOT regurgitate the answer that has been documented here repeatedly.  Please explain why after YEARS of requests, this is still not fixed, or an adequate reason given for why it is not fixed.

I've been using QB for approaching 1 year.  I assumed there was an obvious fix for my all our "Service" income did not show up on the "Sales" graph on the dashboard.  I finally decided to find out what is necessary to change, so that we can make use of the "Sales" graph, that QB finds so important that they make a the most prominent fixture on the dashboard.  (And it can't even be removed.  How weird is that?)

Well, after reading that this has been an ongoing complaint for not a few months, or just a year, but over 2 years, with repetitious acknowledgment from QB employees that they understand how important this fix is to their users, there's no hint of any fix in sight!  How about we at least be able to remove the "Sales" chart off the dashboard, along with any of the other charts that are useless to individual users?

Looking forward to the day when Sales for our service is recognized as "Sales" in QuickBooks.

This is ridiculous.. just provide an option to allow any bank deposit classified as "Sales" to translate to the "sales" graph in the dashboard.. how difficult could this be?

This makes the dashboard useless for my business which only receives income via automatic bank deposits
