We were using desktop version of quickbooks and moved all but the payroll to the online version. We no longer need the online version because we brought everything back in house. How do I transfer the information from the online version to the desktop version short of creating a new company because of the payroll aspect. I.E. checks written, deposits ma
I'd be glad to help you move your files, @Jenniferlaketexoma.
To migrate your file to QuickBooks Desktop, refer to this article for the detailed steps: Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop
Know that there are limitations when you convert your file. That includes the audit log, estimates, and recurring transactions.
Once done, I'd recommend running the Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet reports to ensure that you transferred your data correctly. To verify your reports in both products, filter the date period to All Dates and the accounting method to Accrual.
Let me know in the comment section if you need further assistance. Have a good one.
This looks like it will basically be total upload of all the information? I already have the payroll information in the desktop version I want to go back to. Is there anyway to choose what you transfer?
Hi there, @ Jenniferlaketexom.
You'll need to export the data from QuickBooks Online (QBO) to transfer the information in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Some of it will not go through or move to this new platform because the desktop and the online product has different features that are causing a limitation of transferring the file.
Transferring your data from QBO to QBDT should have steps to do before converting. Please check this article about the process of how it works in exporting and converting data in QuickBooks: Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.
You can visit this article to check the list of data and to know what information can be transfer to QBDT: Limitations when you convert from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.
I’m always here if you need further help with converting your data. Keep safe and have a wonderful day!

Utilize the trial period of a 3rd party migration tool. i.e TP Exporter for QBO and TP Importer for QBD.

I have been trying to transfer a client back to desktop for 2 days. I have followed all of your steps with Internet Explorer and when I open QB online, I don't show any of my clients. ??? I have other clients also but only need to transfer one. HELP! I need to get this done today!
Thanks for joining us here, Bluewaterbookkeeping.
Have you tried logging in to the client's account outside of QuickBooks Online Accountant?
If you can't access it either, please contact our phone support for QBO. They'll take a closer look at this and make sure that you're able to move the client back to the Desktop version.
