We can follow the suggested recommendation by BigRedConsulting. Also, if you still have access to your QuickBooks Desktop company file, we can export your payroll data into QuickBooks Online (QBO) using Intuit Interchange Format (IIF). First, we have to set up your preferences in your payroll account. Here's how:
Once done, you can make changes to your preferences at any time. Then, proceed to the next steps in this article to finish the export process: Export your payroll data into QuickBooks. From there, you can run the payroll summary report. This gives you the total payroll wages, taxes, deductions, and contributions.
On the other hand, the Enter [current year] prior pay details option is only available when there are no paychecks created yet in QBO. We can find it by going back to Payroll and selecting Finish adding your team. Then, select the employee and scroll down to see the Enter [current year] prior pay details option. Here's an article you can refer to for more details about setting up a prior payroll for QuickBooks Online Payroll.
If that option is unavailable, there's no need to reset your payroll. What we can do is contact our Payroll Support Team. They'll access your account and create an adjustment to record the old payroll transactions before using QBO. To ensure we address your concern, our representatives are available from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays and 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM on Saturdays, PST. See our support hours and types for more details about this one. Here's how:
I've also added an article you can refer to for more details about creating paychecks in online payroll. Feel free to browse this link here if you need help with other tasks in QuickBooks Online Payroll. It'll route you to our general payroll topics with articles.

I am not sure I fully understand what you are suggesting or that I can do what you are suggesting. Your suggestion appears to me that it had to be done before I did any payroll. I migrated over about 6 or 7 months ago and have done lots of payrolls using Core payroll. I believe the pre-merge data is actually in there -- it just wasn't recorded as payroll and was just recorded as a general expense. I can find the information in Profit and Loss statement - but its in there as a general expense - and I have not tried to see if I can see all the details that I need. And the new payroll shows up under payroll. Since the pre-merge payroll isn't listed as a payroll it just wont show up on a payroll summary report so there isn't anyway that I can find to compare them.
I understand that you want to view your prior payroll data, CAK.
However, these data can't be migrated to QuickBooks Online (QBO) when you convert from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). If you want these to show up in your payroll summary report and compare them, I suggest contacting our Payroll Support Team. They may be able to enter pre-migration payroll data and have these appear in your reports. Here's how:
