When charging a customer via invoice. How do you get the 2.9% fee instead of the 3.4% keyed fee?

The rate page says if you INVOICE a customer and they pay, you only get charged 2.9% but if I do that and keep the card on file I still get charged the 3.4% How is it different and how do I get the 2.9% fee when billing the customer.

When charging a customer via invoice. How do you get the 2.9% fee instead of the 3.4% keyed fee?

Hi there, awysocki.

Thank you for visiting again the QuickBooks Community. I'll be providing some information about processing payment or ACH transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

There are several terms of payments when using QuickBooks Payments for your transactions. The fees depend on how you processed the payment. That said, you'll get charged 2.9% + 25c per transaction if you're using a Credit card - online invoice. Then, 3.4% + 25 ¢ for Credit card - keyed.

The transaction fees also include the following:

  1. ACH bank transfer - 1% (Max $10)
  2. Credit card - swiped - 2.4% + 25 ¢
  3. Monthly fee - None

Additionally, please know that if you process an instant deposit, there's an additional 1% fee of the total amount of the instant deposit. This is in addition to the fees for processing customer payments. For more details, check out this article: What are the fees for QuickBooks Payments?.

You might also want to check out this article to see steps on how you can verify when QuickBooks deposits customer payments into your bank account: Find out when QuickBooks Payments deposits customer payments.

Please post a reply below if you have additional questions about your processing fees. I'll be more than happy to assist you again. Have a great day and take care always.

I guess I'm still confused with the ONLINE INVOICE.

I email my customer an invoice, they gave me a credit card on file when we set up the account. They call or text me saying ok and I do a receive payment on their online invoice.  should that be the 2.9 + or the 3.4 + fee?
