I understand that you're experiencing an issue with the customer list in QuickBooks Online (QBO), kaye8. I'm here to assist you in resolving this matter.
To view your customers, you can access the menu represented by three horizontal bars. Clicking on this menu will display a list of customer names. This feature facilitates smoother navigation and helps you quickly locate specific clients in the search results.
Here's how:

What you describe is exactly how it USED to work before today. It does not anymore. There is no dropdown to select sort by name. That section now only says "recently viewed customers".
Thanks for getting back to us, kaye8.
I'll share with you some details on how we can isolate this issue. This way, you can seamlessly manage your customer with ease.
For the time being, there aren't any reported cases of customer lists in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Based on your description, it seems that the error is caused by the browser's collection of data over time from frequent page visits. To isolate this matter, you can perform some troubleshooting steps.
I'd suggest logging out and logging back into your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account. It refreshes the system and for the updates to take effect.
If this is not the case, I recommend accessing your account via a private or incognito window. It allows us to determine whether the problem is due to browser caching.
Using a private window helps us verify the issue, as this doesn't save any data files. You can utilize these keyboard shortcuts when opening an incognito window.
If it works, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache. If not, use other supported web engines to learn what computer and browser are needed for the best experience when using QuickBooks.
However, if the issue persists, I'd suggest getting in touch with our Customer Support Team. This way, they can pull up your account securely and further investigate this. Here's how:

I would like to know this as well! That was very useful to have.
I just got off the phone with support. This was a change made with the recent upgrade to "make it better." I've reported my dissatisfaction in not having the option to review the complete customer list. I suggest others do the same.
The new updates are HORRIBLE! This is one of MANY issues that we are finding as well. I spent an hour with tech support yesterday because keyboard shortcuts to Save and Close no longer save the information in the Memo box and was told, Well, just don't use keyboard shortcuts? The updates have literally made EVERYTHING more inconvenient and harder to navigate.
100% agreed! Increasing my time on invoicing, etc., substantially. Not happy.
It continues to amaze me how Quickbooks decides on changes to make that are going to make our experience so much better, and those of us who actually use it just get more frustrated with the software.
I used to be able to scroll down a list of all of my customers, this afternoon, I suddenly can only look at 50 of them at a time.
I have to agree with the above sentiments. There was nothing wrong with the functionality of the customer display before. Now I find the display harder to read. Someone needs to tell the IT engineers that if it ain't broke don't fix it. I did finally find how to change the number of customers displayed to 150 like it was before and bring up the list of all customers by clicking the name (with an up arrow beside it) after expanding the list.
This is absurd. To me, if I have "recently viewed" the customer I have taken care of what needed to be done. Doh!!! I need to move on the someone else. The old view showing all customers did that. In fact, I always wanted a way to keep that display open without having to open a customer account.
If you would like to make this better:
1. Give us a way to show this by default when going to "Customers".
2. Have a filter to only show past due "Customers"
3. Have a filter to show not yet due invoices.
4. Have the show recently viewed if you think that is important. So far it has had 0 importance to me.
5. Fire the idiot who had this idea.
Also, when you add a new feature, simply tell us about it and allow us to decide if we wish to use it. The addition of automated reminders is great... if I knew it was turned on. The way this was done caused embarrassment for me.
You are costing me a lot of time with this change. I'm about at wits end with QBO and the escalation of fees and pricing.
Completely agree.
The ability to scroll through customers and sub-jobs is essential. The customer side bar used to be able to do this, but this functionality is now restricted only to the first 1000 customers/sub-jobs. I now have to temporarily change a customers name i.e put the letter a in front, in order to use the side bar facility.....QB Online PLEASE CHANGE THIS BACK IMMEDIATELY - BUSINESSES NEED TO BE ABLE TO SCROLL THROUGH THEIR CUSTOMERS AND EDIT (I might add...without having to re-load the list after each edit !). IT'S WRECKING THE SOFTWARE.
The update to customers is terrible, it is no longer user-friendly! Our business does fundraisers so for every season we make a master customer, e.g... Fall Fund 2023, then every customer we are working with that season becomes a sub-customer. I number them before their name so they are listed in order of their bookings, e.g. 01,02,03,04. These are their numbers throughout their whole sale. It worked perfectly because I could search for Fall Fund 2023 and every customer fell below it in order. Now since the update, I search Fall Fund 2023 and expect to see a concurrent list and know I get a list out of order, e.g. 22.09,41,15. What a pain this is going to be when all their orders come in and I have to begin invoicing. Please change it back we are going into our busy season and I don't have time for this! This update has made things harder.
