Hi there, @midatlantictemp3.
The reason why you can't reassign projects to different customers is that QuickBooks wants to keep track of those transactions. As of this time, you can consider creating a new project and entering the existing transactions manually as you've mentioned above.
I know how useful for you to have this option to work with QuickBooks seamlessly. But I want to let you know that your voice matters and I'm submitting this feedback to our product engineers for consideration.
For now, you can visit our blog site so you'll be able to get the latest news about QuickBooks and what our Product Care Team is working on.

Thank you and plus one. Having a feature where projects are reassigned to different customers would be very useful because in our business we have several use cases where project reassignment is likely, and it's not feasible to recreate transactions manually.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the feature to reassign projects, xii799.
I'm glad to take note of this preference and pass it over to our developers for future updates. Like you, i'm also hoping to see this in our upcoming releases,

Hi
I am an accountant , I have plenty of clients (more than 30 travel agencies) have the very strong urge to add different customers to one project. Would you please develop this feature in the future? Thanks!
Thank you for sharing your idea about enhancing your QuickBooks Online experience as well as for the benefit of other users, @AAAZZZ2020.
The best I can do right now is to submit this suggestion to our Engineering Team. There they can test the benefit of the feature before the product implementation.
You can visit our blog to stay current with our features and product updates: The QuickBooks Blog.
Thank you so much for choosing QuickBooks Online, @AAAZZZ2020, and more power to your business!
Is there any update on being able to reassign the customer for an existing project? I have a QBO file that needs clean up from the way the previous bookkeeper set up the projects functionality. There are about 57 projects with a lot of transactions under each project. Not practical at all to have to recreate each project and edit each transaction.
Thank you for posting here in the Intuit Community @Caitlin-S.
I know how important it is for you to have this feature available in QuickBooks. As of the moment, our developers haven't released an official statement on when this is going to be live in the program.
Rest assured, they are closely working on making QuickBooks a better avenue for your success. I'll personally submit a follow-up request to our engineers letting them know you wanted this feature.
Once our engineers roll out new enhancements in QBO, you will be notified through in-product ads and email. What's good about QuickBooks is the accessibility to new features without downloading them manually.

I have the same issue and would like this functionality ASAP.
Thank you!
I also have the same issue, and it would greatly benefit me having this feature.
I am experiencing the same. My staff didn't get all the client info when setting up the projects. She set it as "TBD" temporarily. When I received the client info, I couldn't update it other than trying to delete it and create another one, then input all their time sheet back on again.
As a small business owner, this is getting very frustrating. Please look into getting this feature asap.
If not, I will have to seek another program that can do the what we are looking for.
It's a lot of work to handle manually migrating and project over and it is prone to errors. I'm going to spend 40-60 hours on a mishap trying correct for vast number of projects that were assigned incorrectly each having many transactions across multiple accounts with split charges. Please add this feature in the future.
I also need to be able to do transfer a project to a new client. In the construction industry, we'll start building a home as a spec, then someone will come along and buy it during the building process but I am unable to to transfer it to that new client and it's very inconvenient.
This feature is needed ASAP. I
We DO need this feature, please!
The Community recognizes feedback and product suggestions to make the program better, qatarisun.
I know the importance of having this kind of feature. As of this moment, we don't have a specific time frame as to when this be implemented. I'll make sure to tap this into our developer's team. Our product engineers will continue to make improvements to the product, and this preference might be available in the future in the best interest of our customers.
In the meantime, you may want to consider visiting our QuickBooks Blog. From there, you can see the future developments and the latest news about QuickBooks and what our Product Care Team is working on.

This feature is essential, especially if your costumers consolidate. for reporting, and strategizing you'd need to then need manually calculate customer sales and margin, as well as any other standard metrics.
This original question was posted in November 2019 with the representative saying they would suggest it to developers. It is now May 2021. Thanks for all the bells and whistles in the meantime :( but functionality needs to be addressed. I don't need my "transaction volume" nor do i need the "common issues" screen on the Overview. I don't need for Quickbooks to suggest Insurance. What I want is to be able to correct Projects/Jobs entries without manually entering everything.
Any update on this? I have a client that has the same issue. I believe I'm going to have to manually move all the transactions - no other way, correct?
Thank you for joining the thread, @pivot.
Yes, you're correct. At this time, you'll have to create a new project and move all the transactions manually.
I understand that the option to reassign transactions from a project to a new one can save you a lot of time. However, our product engineers are considering all suggestions based on the number of requests and their impacts before they're rolled out.
For now, you can directly send feedback to our product engineers by going to the Gear icon and selecting Feedback. You can also go to this feedback forum and check if the suggestion is already requested by other QuickBooks users. It's a place where customers' feedback is listed and the recent updates in QuickBooks.
Please continue to reach me here in the Community if you need more assistance managing projects in QuickBooks Online. I'll be sure to get back to you.
Mark,
What is the critical mass of your client base needed to get this change made? As others have noted, this was supposedly being considered two years ago. I would be happy to put out the word.
I am relatively new to QBO Projects, but I have fully embraced the functionality and I have spent months transferring hundreds of transactions over to Projects. For those who have done it, re-assigning invoices and payments from one customer to another (including a Project) is tricky, tedious and time-consuming.
I have loaded up 26 projects, assigned to 4 different customers, and I just learned that 3 of them were erroneously assigned to the wrong customer. I, of course, assumed this would be an easy fix, but, like everyone else on this thread, I have learned otherwise. Given that it will be quicker for me to move all of the transactions...again...rather than wait on a solution from QuickBooks, that's what I am going to need to do. For what it's worth, it will take me about 8-10 hours of un-interrupted work...there are that many transactions. It would have been so much easier to just change the customer in a drop-down menu.
Thanks,
Bryan
The fact that this is extremely quick and easy with QB desktop makes me wonder what the drawbacks could possibly be for adding this feature to QB Online. Please listen to your customers and make this happen. We've been asking for years, and it seems so simple.
I Agree! I need to reassign Projects sometimes and I hate "Making Inactive" or Cancelling, etc. I just want to simply re-assign it.
Please do find a fix. In my businesses and new owner often takes over a project. I am unable to transfer ownership of the project in QuickBooks without hours of recreating time charges and this opens a huge opportunity for error when there are years of time charges to move.
It is doubly disappointing to know that the desktop version has this option.
This has been the cut and paste reply for years, based on previous posts. Unfortunate.
