Hello there, @bb55. Let's work together to set up a new account in the Chart of Accounts. 

 

Please know that QuickBooks Online has a maximum number of things, like accounts or users you can have one at a time. Depending on your subscription, you have a specific usage limit. These limits apply to how many billable usersa chart of accountsclasseslocations, and tags you can add. 

 

If you haven't reached the maximum numbers and can't create a new account in the Chart of Accounts, it may be due to browser-related problems. With this, we can try logging in to your QBO account using a private browsing window, as this ignores cookies and does not record browsing history or data.

 

We can use these shortcut keys on your keyboard to access incognito mode:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If there's no issue with using a private browser, we can switch back to your regular browser and clear its cache.

 

Moreover, you can also import a spreadsheet of custom accounts or your existing accounts from another QuickBooks Online instead of manually entering your accounts.

I am having an identical issue. The maximum has not been reached, and I receive the same error message when attempting to use an incognito window. Any other suggestions as what I can try?

We've received similar cases about the error you encountered when creating a new account in the COA. I recommend contacting our support so they can add you to the affected users list. This way, you'll receive updates or progress of the report.

  1. Go to the Help icon and choose Search.
  2. Click the Contact Us button and enter your concern.
  3. Press Continue.
