Reconcile replaced credit card

Hi, lost credit card and was replaced. I didn't reconcile 2 months before I lost it. Now when I download transactions QB tells me the account is not recognized and need to create a new one. How do I first reconcile the transactions with the old credit card and then the ones with the new one?

Hi there, @onedolphin.

I'm here to help share insights about your credit card account in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac making sure you're able to reconcile now that you have the new card handy.

Firstly, let's download a QBO file consisting of two months' worth of transactions to cover where you ended your last session of reconciliation. Then, import the file to your existing credit card account and start working with the reconciliation.

Kindy read and use the following articles below to learn more about uploading transactions and reconciling them:

Once done, go ahead and update your online banking credentials using the new credit card information and reconcile your credit card account accordingly. Here's an article you can read to learn more: Set up and Update online Banking for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Now that you've reconciled your account, I have included this reference in case you need help performing tasks related to your business account and company settings, click here to access and browse all articles for QuickBooks products. Hi, the issue is that the credit card issuer is using the same file, when I download, doesn't matter the dates, it shows always the with the new number so QB is asking to create a new account.

Thanks for checking back in, @onedolphin

Since the file is causing QuickBooks to request to make a new account, I recommend contacting our Technical Support Team for this one. That way, one of our tech agents can use their tools to review your account in a secure environment and investigate this matter further. I've included the link to connect with our team below.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I'm always here to lend a hand. Take care!

Hi, with the support I don't have good experience. What will be the easier way to fix that? I believe only renaming the credit card account in QB will fix it, I just don't know how to do it since it is already in the bank feed.

Hello there, @onedolphin. Let me get the help you need with your credit card account so you can reconcile.

Once online services activate in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), you may need to disconnect the old account so you can reconnect the replacement card.

To disconnect your old credit card account, see the steps below:

  1. On your QDBT for Mac account, go to the Lists menu at the top.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Highlight the account and click the pencil to edit.
  4. Choose Online Settings.
  5. Click Download Transactions then, Not enabled.
  6. Select OK to confirm.
  7. Choose OK.

Once done, reconnect the credit card account using the replacement card.

  1. On your QDBT for Mac account, go to the Banking menu at the top.
  2. Select Online Banking Setup.
  3. Enter your bank’s name, then choose Next.
  4. If your bank offers both services, select Direct Connect, then Next.
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions.

For more information about the process above, see these articles:

Then, once your bank transactions download, see this resource: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop. It will help you in managing your bank transactions.
