Report filters not working

I had that issue several weeks ago and none of the file rebuild attempts worked. I was able to get help from QB Support - they said it was likely from a Windows update. I had to wait a few days for QB IT to push out an update. I suggest you contact them so they know what is going on and can address in an update.

Amazing how dependent we are on the report filters ... !

I think you are spot-on with the relationship between a recent update and the lack of functionality of filters for Job Time by Detail report.  Thank you for posting. I also noted that when I start the report and go to the filters tab, it totally wipes out the default date range.  I don't know about your data, but mine goes back over 10 years!

Is there any way to undo an update?  That would be a good place to start.

To QB support team, unless you can say this issue is fixed, I really don't need to hear how many badges I've earned or to verify my data or any other stall mechanism.  I want you to fix this so I can run the reports I need to invoice customers in a timely manner and justify why the cost of using  QuickBooks more than tripled for a single year.

Hello ztsr05,

Thank you for posting here in the Community space. Allow me to chime in and share information about your update concern in QuickBooks Online.

The ability to undo an update related to running reports is unavailable. I know how important it is to navigate the program seamlessly and run the reports.

Know our product engineers provide updates regularly to improve the features and options, including the changes in the reports section. I recommend sending feedback about the report issue directly to our engineers.

We also make changes and adjustments based on user feedback. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select Feedback under Profile.
  3. Share your feedback.
  4. Hit Next to submit.

In QuickBooks Online, you can also quickly share PDFs of reports over email or share edit access with team members for the reports in QuickBooks: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

Hit the Reply button for concerns about running reports or reverting updates in QuickBooks. We're available 24/7 to lend a hand. Take care always.

I have talked to Intuit/QB about this issue a few times (at the expense of my employer).  PLEASE fix this issue.  I use QB Pro Desktop...NOT online.

Report filters not working

Let me chime in and share some additional information about the issue regarding running the Time by Job Detail report, @Mickshawn.

Currently, there's still an ongoing investigation about being unable to filter the Time by Job Detail report for just one job in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2021 (INV-92635). Our product engineers are currently working on a resolution to fix the problem.

The recommended workaround for this is to upgrade your QBDT to the latest release of 2023 to take advantage of this feature or wait for the INV to be resolved.

With that said, I recommend contacting our phone support agents again to add you to the list of affected users. This will allow them to get your contact details privately so you'll be able to receive updates regarding the issue. Here's how:

  1. In your QBDT program, select the Help tab.
  2. Next, choose QuickBooks Desktop Help or press F1 on your keyboard.
  3. Then, click the Contact Us button in the Have a Question? window.
  4. From there, enter your concern in the question box and select Continue.
  5. Choose either the Chat with us or Have us call you option.

Additionally, I'll include this helpful article that you can use as a guide in case you need to customize reports: Customize Reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

Should you have any other concerns about running or customizing your report, please leave a reply below. I'm always ready to provide a prompt response.

Report filters not working

We're glad to see you joining the Community, @ztsr05. Please allow me to share details regarding the ongoing investigation into being unable to filter the Time by Job Detail report in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

I understand the urgency of resolving this issue as soon as possible. However, the investigation provided by my peer above is particularly for QBDT 2021 versions only. For now, you'll want to update your 2023 version to its latest release and utilize the QuickBooks Tool Hub to resolve common issues in the program.

See these steps on how to download and install it:

  1. Close the QBDT software.
  2. Download the latest version (1.6.0.3) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub and save the file somewhere you can locate it quickly.
  3. Open the file (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. Once done, double-click on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

Upon opening, you'll see tabs containing a set of instruments that will help resolve your issue. Refer to this article for a detailed description of each tool: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.

Additionally, QBDT allows you to email reports at a regular and recurring scheduled time. This way, you don't need to send them manually because the program automates this process already.

You can ping me anytime by mentioning my name in the comments below whenever you have questions involving filtering reports. I'm always around to offer support. Keep safe and have a nice day.

Just to confirm to QB Support, the issue is happening with Quickbooks Desktop (not QB Online); however, it's still occurring and it's been weeks. It's clearly an issue with the latest QB Updates because when repairing the QB Program, the problem goes away. For now, I have had to turn off Automatic Updates in Quickbooks.

Please can we have an update from QB Support personnel on when they expect to release a fix? Running updates yesterday broke all my report filters again and I had to roll back the Quickbooks program using the Control Panel again.

Report filters not working

On September 22, 2023 I downloaded a payroll update.  Then when I tried running a Time By Job Detail Report, the customer name/job filter did not work.  I need to filter time by jobs all the time for my invoicing.  I spent more than two hours on the phone and was transferred three or four times.  I had no satisfaction from three different departments.  The supposed fix of downloading Quickbooks Tool Hub did not work.  I'm very frustrated and don't want to waste time calling.  Has anyone figured out a way to fix this?

Thanks,

DMay

Report filters not working

Hello @Mickshawn

I understand the importance of filtering reports for efficiency. I'm here to provide an update on the investigation mentioned in this thread.

The investigation (INV-92635) regarding the inability to filter Time by Job Detail Report for one job is still ongoing. Therefore, our engineering team is working hard to find appropriate solutions for the impacted users listed in this thread. Yes, updates will be sent via email when available.

We understand the urgency of resolving this issue. However, there's no definite timeline for the resolutions. If you need to follow up, please contact our QuickBooks Payroll Team by following the steps provided by my colleagues.

In the meantime, you can either upgrade to the newer version in 2023 to use this feature or wait for the settlement in 2021. Furthermore, here's an article that can walk you through different ways to personalize reports in the program: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

We appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter. We will continue to update this thread as we receive more information. If you have any other questions besides filtering the report, please let us know in a reply below.

Thank you very much JamaicaA. This is the most helpful feedback we've received to date from Quickbooks and is very much appreciated. Just knowing it's being investigated and that we will be notified via email once a resolution is available is a tremendous help. Please do stress the urgency as this bug does render much of Quickbooks unuseable for billing, reporting, etc.

Thank you again JamaicaA.

Report filters not working

This is a huge inconvenience. We need this report to total hours by job for not only job costing, but to help fill out weekly certified payroll reports and OCIP reports. A report that has been working for years and suddenly no longer works is unacceptable. To do this by hand or downloading to Excel is possible, but a huge inconvenience especially when there are multiple jobs requiring those reports. Some of the moderator messages say to upgrade to 2023 version of QB Desktop but messages from users running on that version says it is still an issue in that version.

This has now been over two months since this issue was reported and still not fixed. I expected something this critical to have been fixed within a couple of days. It makes the program unusable.

Is this not actually going to be fixed? After two months and no action, what do you advise when your more recent desktop products have the same issue? As a programmer myself, there's no way it should take this long so is this not actually going to be fixed? This is beyond frustrating.

Thank you for the response, but why do we need to contact QuickBooks support to report this so that we are included on the list of affected users? Aren't the monitors responding to these messages reporting these and the affected users to the Support Team?

I'm here to help and provide clarifications about your concern, Lilalykat.

Adding customers to the list of affected users requires gathering personal data. For security reasons, I'm unable to perform the process here in the Community. Thus, you'll have to contact our Technical Support Team for further assistance.

Reaching out to them will help our engineers determine the number of impacted users. You'll also be notified via email once there's progress on the investigation, especially the permanent resolution.

Here's how to get the support details:

  1. Open your QuickBooks and head to the Help menu at the top to select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. This action will take you to the Have a question? window.
  3. Choose Contact Us and give a brief description of your issue.
  4. Click the Continue button and log in to your Intuit account.
*If you don't have an account, create a new one.
  5. From there, select Continue and then Continue with my account.
  6. We'll email you a single-use code and input the number.
*If you have more than one account, select the one you want to use and Continue.
  7. Press the Continue button.
  8. Select to chat with us or Have us call you.

You can browse this reference to learn more about the support options and hours: QuickBooks Desktop.

I've attached an article that tackles assigning expenses to jobs, setting up customers for each job, and running various reports about time and jobs: Track job costs. Additionally, this link contains instructions and answers to questions about the report function: Self-help guide.

Don't hesitate to visit the Community again if you have additional questions about the Time by Job Detail report or other QuickBooks concerns. I'll get back to help you the best that I can.

Does anyone know if this is an issue in v 22? I called Intuit and was told to upgrade to that version because they haven't received reports of it not working in version 22. Before I have everyone on my team upgrade to that version, I want to make sure it works.

Cortland

Report filters not working

Hello Lilalykat, I know others have reported that 2023 still has the same issue so I would imagine 22 does as well. Again, if I need to run any filters on reports, I have to go into the control panel and "repair" Quickbooks desktop. The filters then work correctly for a short time until some process updates it again on the backend and it breaks. Turning off automatic updates does not prevent this from breaking again. This is clearly a bug on Intuit's end I think.
