Report filters not working

I've been experiencing issues with various reports where the filters are simply not working. I've noticed it this week definitely and possibly the previous week as well. I've called QBO support and they acknowledge it's a problem and that others have reported this issue as well but, as usual, they are not giving any timeline for this fix whatsoever. I end up feeling like they're not taking this seriously, as it does not seem to be acknowledged anywhere on their site. Does anyone know the status of this and ETA for when this will be fixed? It's creating a lot of extra work for me. One of the reports I'm having trouble with involves the employee 401(k) contributions from their paychecks. I use this report to submit the contributions to our 401(k) plan. Thank you.

Let's make sure to fix the issue, skskinny.

May I know the name of the report you're referring to? What specific issues are you experiencing?

There are times that your browser is full of frequently accessed page resources that may have caused some unusual responses. You can log into your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account in a private window (incognito). Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox).
  • Control Option (Safari).

Once signed in, you can try checking if you're able to filter reports. If so, return to your default browser and clear the cache to speed up the loading process. Every so often the cache becomes overwhelmed with older data which can potentially cause viewing and performance issues. Clearing it will refresh the system, and you'll be able to work with a clean slate. However, if the issue persists, you can switch to other supported browsers.

For more information, learn how to export reports and list in case you need a reference. I've added this article for your guide: Export Reports, Lists, and Other Data From QuickBooks Online

Fill me in if you have questions about customizing reports. I'm always here if you need further assistance.

Report filters not working

It's not all reports I'm having issues with, just some of them. One of the reports is a customized report filtered by Payroll Checks and some of our payroll liability accounts. The report used to show all transactions that met the filter criteria and now won't show any transactions. I have tried this incognito and in other browsers. Like I said in the original post, the person I spoke with said that it was a known issue so you should have access to more information about this "bug."

Report filters not working

I have the same issue with all my client accounts (on the account version). I've contacted support multiple times with no resolution for the last few years.

1. I generate the P&L detail report > select net income to see details

2. I filter to see only our checking accounts

The report does not work. It still shows me credit card transactions even though the credit card is not selected. Also, when using this report it shows me accounts payable vs the Chart of Accounts item that is mapped to the accounts payable.

If there is no fix for this report, in summary: I need a report to pull showing income & expenses that hit any cash bank accounts within a given date range (excluding credit cards) and to see the chart of accounts categories for those transactions. Basically a P&L just showing cash transactions. This important for cash flow and budgeting.

Starting today, I have the same issue -- Report Time by Job Detail  --  where I normally filter by Customer Name.  It does not filter.  I have tried putting in other filters and still get the same result.  Was anyone able to help resolve your particular issue?

Hello ztsr05, I had the same problem last week and worked with QB Support. They were able to replicate the problem on their end and acknowledged the problem. Though I wasn't notified of a fix or available updates, yesterday I did updates in QB Desktop, and now my report filtering is back to normal. Hopefully you can also do updates and get back to normal!

Thank you for the response.  Funny you should mention updates, this started just after the last payroll update.  Not sure if it's related or not.

Report filters not working

Hi, ztsr05. I'll share some insights about this.

While it's possible for glitches to occur when running reports after making updates in payroll, it's not a guaranteed outcome. QuickBooks Desktop is a robust accounting software, and updates are typically released to address bugs and improve functionality.

However, it's always a good practice to exercise caution when updating any software, including QuickBooks. Before updating, it's advisable to create a backup of your company file to ensure you have a restore point in case any issues arise.

We received several reports regarding this issue, and our Product Engineers are now working to fix it as quickly as possible. While they do, I recommend reaching out to our Customer Care Team, so you'll be added to the list of affected users. You may follow the steps shared by MirriamM above to contact them.

Furthermore, I've added this resource where you can browse for some information that can help you achieve your tasks when using QuickBooks Desktop: View Help Articles.

Keep us posted if you require further clarifications and concerns. The Community team is here to assist. Keep safe.

Having the same issue as well.. seems like its related to a recent update that got pushed and picked up due to our automatic updates function being set.

A Job Time by Detail report literally won't filter anything when adding filters. We try to add a filter by Customer or Job name only for it to continue to pull all data instead. I've also found that trying to use Summary or Time by Job type reports I can't open the customize report/filters window at all without the software crashing.

We use Quickbooks Desktop 2021 which is hosted on one PC and used in Multi User mode on others. We did find that one of our PC's that wasn't updated was able to pull and filter these reports as normal. I'm hopeful that a hotfix is pushed out soon on this as it could jam us up if this is a long term issue.

Hello there,

Since something like crashing of the software happens, I suggest performing the Verify and Rebuild Data feature in your company file. It is to help determine if there are issues within your company data. Here's how:

  1. In your QuickBooks file, choose File.
  2. Go to Utilities and select Verify Data.
  3. QuickBooks will inspect the file for damage and notify you if it finds any. If any errors are discovered, proceed to the next step.
  4. Choose File.
  5. Go to Utilities.
  6. Select Rebuild Data.
  7. After the Rebuild is finished, try importing your data again.

For detailed information about the steps, please visit this article: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop

You can visit this article you can use in the future: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

For additional QuickBooks-related concerns, don't hesitate to post them here in the Community. We're always available and willing to lend a hand to your queries. Have a great day ahead.

I have the exact same issue with QB Desktop 2021 Accounting Edition. I wasn't able to run reports needed to do billing but repaired from control panel and it worked to correct the issue temporarily. It is now broken again (possibly due to reapplying a broken update).

It's frustrating when a program that used to work suddenly stops working, Cortland.

I completely understand the frustration and inconvenience that you must be experiencing due to this issue. I know how much time and effort you've already put in to resolve this problem. However, after conducting a thorough check using my tools, it has come to my attention that several other users have also reported a similar issue with filtering the Time by Job Detail Report in QuickBooks Desktop. This issue appears to be more prevalent among customers using the QBDT 2021Accounting version of the software.

With that said, I suggest reaching out to our customer support team. This way, you'll be added to the affected users. Also, they will be able to update you on when this will be resolved or updates about the status of the investigation.

Here's how:

  1. In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), click Help.
  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop Help or press F1 on your keyboard.
  3. Click the Contact Us button in the Have a Question? window.
  4. Enter your concern in the description box and select Continue.
  5. Choose either Chat with us or Have us call you.

Before reaching out with your concerns, please take a moment to review our support hours. This will ensure that we can assist you as promptly as possible.

Report filters not working

Just to confirm, I tried my workaround process again by "repairing" Quickbooks Desktop from the Control Panel and the report filters that were failing immediately worked again. I then ran QB Update and the reports broke again.

Hopefully this will provide a workaround for the rest of the community while the developers fix the bug.

Thank you AileneA for your reply, but I'm afraid I haven't the time to call and go through the QB support process so will monitor this thread for when Intuit pushes a fix.

Thank you,

I understand that you're experiencing issues with your report filters in QuickBooks, @WGdebel.

However, in order to provide you with the most accurate support, could you please specify the type of report you are encountering issues with and which QuickBooks product you are using? This information will help us better understand your situation and provide you with the appropriate guidance.

For the time being, I suggest performing some troubleshooting steps to refresh the system and identify common issues in QuickBooks. If you're using QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), verifying and rebuilding your company file will help you get past this situation. Here's how:

Verify your company data:

  1. Go to Window then select Close All.
  2. Go to File, then click Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data. If you see:
    a. QuickBooks detected no problems with your data—your data is clean, and you don’t need to do anything else.
    b. An error message—search for it on our QuickBooks Desktop support site for how to fix it.
    c. Your data has lost integrity—Data damage was found in the file. Rebuild your data to fix it.

Kindly utilize this article for the detailed steps on how to rebuild your company data: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you're using QuickBooks Online (QBO), I recommend opening a private window to troubleshoot any issues related to cache or cookies. Opening an incognito window can help determine if the problem is caused by temporary files.

To open an incognito window, you can use the following keyboard shortcuts: [Provide the keyboard shortcuts for opening an incognito window].

  • Mozilla Firefox & Microsoft Edge: Press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Google Chrome: Press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari: Press Command + Shift + N

If the filter in the report starts working when you use a private window, I recommend clearing your browser cache to refresh the system. If the issue continues to persist, I suggest utilizing other supported browsers. This will help us determine if the problem is specific to your current browser.

Additionally, if you wish to have the same customized report settings available for future use in QuickBooks, you might find these articles helpful to explore:

Kindly inform me of any updates by leaving a comment below. I am available round the clock and ready to provide the necessary assistance.
