Sales by customer by month - QBOnline

Hi,

I use QB online and would like to run a report that shows sales by customers by month.  I saw a report that runs sales by customers which compares 2 months but I'd like to see sales for 12 months.  Is there a way I can create such a report?

Thanks.

Yes, there's a way to create the Sales by Customer report that compares your twelve months' worth of sales in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @juma1. I'm here to guide you how.

You can compare two months of your sales when pulling up the Sales by Customer (Summary) report through the Compare another period feature. Then, to acquire such a report that provides your twelve months' worth of sales, you'll have to manually update the Report period and Display columns by fields. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Type in Sales in the search box, then select Sales by Customer Summary.
  3. In the Report period field, select the Custom option. Then type in the dates in the From and To fields.
  4. Choose Months in the Display columns by field.
  5. Select Run report.

I've attached screenshots below for your reference.

After customizing the sales report, you can memorize it to save its current customization setting. For the detailed steps, kindly check out this article: Memorize reports in QuickBooks Online. It also contains information in scheduling and emailing a memorized report and add it to a group.

I'm also adding this article for the complete list of reports available for your QBO version: Reports included in your QuickBooks Online subscription. It includes sections like business overview, sales and customer, and who owes you to name a few.

Please let me know if you have other concerns. I'm just around to help. Take care always.

What do I do if I do not have the second customization option showing up in Quickbooks to have the report provide monthly column data?

Hello, jgallup.

Let's perform some troubleshooting steps so we can verify if this is related to your browser or not, jgallup.

You can try using a different browser in accessing your QBO account to isolate further the issue. There are times that the browser stores frequently-accessed data, thus causing some errors or unusual behavior.

Let's try logging in to your QuickBooks Online account using a private or a different browser. Here's how:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: press Ctrl + Shift + P

Once logged in, go back to the report and customize it to double-check if you're able to view the monthly column data. If this works, it means that you need to clear the browser's cache so the system can start fresh. You can also do this task on other supported, up-to-date browsers. Clearing the cache will refresh the system, and you'll be able to work with clean trash.

I have the report that shows the Sales by Customer by Month, but it is a single line per customer only.

What I have been unable to find so far, is a way to show the months as columns, then the customers down the left, with each product / line item shown for each customer.

                         Month 1    Month 2     etc
Customer A
- Line item 1
- Line item 2
- Line item 3

Customer B
- Line item 1
- Line item 2
- Line item 3

Is this possible?

Thank you for joining the thread and sharing the details of your concern about the report you want to pull up and the specific customization you desire. I'll share guidelines that could help you include your desired columns when you export your customized transaction report.

You can run the Sales by Customer Detail report and ensure to select all the columns you wish to include in your report. Then, export the report to Excel. From there, you can modify it to add columns for the months and then the customers down the left, with each product/line item shown for each customer.

You can follow these steps:

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Search and select the report you want to export.
  3. Pull up the Sales by Customer Detail Report.
  4. Customize it according to your needed information.
  5. Click the Export icon at the top of the report. Then choose Export to Excel.
  6. Save the file somewhere easy to find, such as your Downloads folder or your desktop.

I will also leave these articles as a future reference:
