Sales Report of Items by VOLUME

Is there a way to run sales report based on the NUMBER (ie sales volume) of items sold?

We run a seafood business, and prices fluctuate seasonally based on availability, market prices, shortages, etc.

Sales amount is obviously an important report to run for our bottom line, but for projecting growth purposes, we need a better picture of how much VOLUME of product we are selling (weight of product sold).

With a market that fluctuates at time $1/lb, understanding item volume is more helpful in understanding how my business is doing.

Much thanks

Sales Report of Items by VOLUME

Glad to see you in the Community, Tuna King.

I'd like to share some reports that can show the volume of an item.

If you have the unit of measure (U/M) set up on the item, you can either run the Sales by Item Detail or Sales by Customer Detail report. These reports displays the Qty, U/M, and totals.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Reports located at the top.
  2. Select Sales Sales by Item Detail or Sales by Customer Detail.
  3. Set the Dates and review the volume of the products.

To learn more about the different reports available in QuickBooks Desktop and how you can customize them, you can check out these articles:

If you have more questions regarding the reports I've shared above, please let me know in your reply. I'll be glad to help you out some more. Take care!

Sales Report of Items by VOLUME

Hi,

Thank you for the reply!

I am looking at the preference setting you pointed me toward and the "Enable" button is not clickable.

Does this mean I am not able to enable this option on our version of QB or am I missing something here?

Hi,

Thank you for the reply!

I am looking at the preference you pointed me toward but I am not able to click on "Enable"

Is there something I am missing or does my version of QB not support this?

We are on QB Desktop PRO 2019

Thanks!

Hi there, @Tuna King. Thanks for getting back and providing a screenshot.

In your case, since you're using QuickBooks Desktop Pro, the Enable option in the Unit of Measure isn't supported. The versions that support the unit of measure (U/M) feature are the following:

  • QuickBooks Accountant
  • QuickBooks Premier Contractor
  • QuickBooks Premier Manufacturing & Wholesale
  • QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions
  • QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions: Contractor
  • QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions: Manufacturing & Wholesale
  • QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions: Nonprofit
  • QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions: Professional Services

If you want to use a single unit of measure, you can consider the below versions:

  • QuickBooks Premier
  • QuickBooks Premier Nonprofit
  • QuickBooks Premier Professional Services

Once you decide to switch, you can go to this link to purchase: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/desktop/premier/

For more information about switching, here's an article that you can visit: Switch QuickBooks Desktop versions without uninstalling

Additionally, to learn about the Unit of Measure feature, take a look at this resource: Use single and multiple units of measure for items.

Let me know if there's anything else you need. I'm always here to help. Have a good day.
