Statement Writer Fatal Error

I have recently upgraded my MS Office 2013 (32 bits) to Office 365 (64 bits). Apparently not problems on my quickbooks 2015 enterprise, except by QB statement writer. When I try to open it, the following message pops up:

1/9/2021 10:04:17 PM: ********* ERROR **********

1/9/2021 10:04:17 PM: Unable to open statement: Fsd.Common.FsdException: Unable to complete QuickBooks request. ---> Fsd.Common.FsdException: unable to locate QB SDK adapter location C:\Program Files\Intuit\Statement Writer 2015\FsdQBSdkAdapter.exe

at Fsd.Common.FilePath.get_QBSdkAdapterExe()

at Fsd.Common.QBAccess.QBSdk.SendRequest(String request, Boolean expectResponse)

--- End of inner exception stack trace ---

at Fsd.Common.QBAccess.QBSdk.SendRequest(String request, Boolean expectResponse)

at Fsd.Common.QBAccess.QBDataAccess.ProcessSdkRequest(String request, Boolean expectResponse)

at Fsd.Common.QBAccess.QBDataAccess.GetQuickBooksInfo()

at Fsd.Statement.ThisWorkbook.ThisWorkbook_Startup(Object sender, EventArgs e).

Apparently, it's not a problem related to 64 bits since I can export from QB to excel.

Statement Writer Fatal Error

I'm here to help you get past the statement writer fatal error, Monteiar.

Certain technical reasons can develop into QuickBooks Statement Writer Fatal Error. Below are the reasons why you're getting this error:

  • If you are signed in to the company file as the External Accountant, that can cause this error message.  You must be logged into the company file as the Admin user to access and use the Intuit Statement Writer.
  • Opening an Accountant’s Copy of QuickBooks Accountant 2010 and you are running Windows 7, you will get this error launching ISW.
  • The Excel might be causing the QuickBooks Statement Writer Error due to internal problems.

To better isolate the issue, as an initial step, ensure your QuickBooks is on its latest release to take advantage of changes and bug fixes. Once done, let's update the Statement Writer.

Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks Statement Writer (QSW).
  2. Click Help Center
  3. Hit Update. If a Download/Install update prompt appears every time you open QSW or shows up after updating, select Cancel to open QSW.

After the update, go back to your QuickBooks and open a statement. However, if you're still getting the same results, you can go through this article for other troubleshooting steps (proceed to Step 3): Fix problems with Statement Writer. On the same link, you'll find a write-up about how to enable User Account Control (UAC).

Let me know the result of this troubleshooting or if you ran into a different situation by adding a comment below. I need to make sure this is resolved and you're able to open a statement without error. All the best!

Statement Writer Fatal Error

Dear Rose,

Thank you for your message.

I am opening the company file as admin, the statement writer is updated and I ran step 3 before I post my problem. However, nothing changed and the same message keeps popping up.

Ps. I run Windows 10 and it is updated.

Kindly regards,

Statement Writer Fatal Error

Hello there, @Monteiar.

Let me share additional troubleshooting steps to help you resolve the fatal error you've received.

First, let's make sure that you're using the updated QuickBooks version. This makes sure that the program displays the latest features and downloads needed patches to resolve unexpected behavior and errors.

I can see that you're using QuickBooks Enterprise 2015. The support and services for this version was discontinued last May 31, 2018. Here's a current list of our supported versions:

One major reason why you're still getting the fatal error even if you have access the company file as admin and updated the statement writer. You'd want to try the trial version for QuickBooks Enterprise 2021 and access your Statement Writer.

Just make sure to create a back up copy of your QuickBooks 2015 company file prior to starting the upgrading process. By doing so, you’ll always have an intact file to go back and work with when prompted with any error.

To download the trial version, here’s how:

  1. Go to: QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise 21.0 30-day trial.
  2. Enter your business information.
  3. Click Get your trial button.

Once completed, follow these steps on how to install QuickBooks:

  1. Run your downloaded QuickBooks 2019.
  2. Click Yes pop-up messages.
  3. Select Next to begin the installation.
  4. Click the I accept the terms in the license agreement box and click Next.
  5. Enter your License and Product numbers, then select Next.
  6. Continue the prompts.

Lastly, I'm adding these resources to help you resolve unexpected behaviors or errors when navigating around QuickBooks:

Statement Writer Fatal Error

I appreciate all the efforts that you've exhausted just to get this working, Monteiar.

I'll make sure that you can get rid of that error.

Please know that the Office 365/Excel (64-bit) is not compatible with the QuickBooks Statement Writer. You can still export data from QuickBooks to MS Excel. However, you'll encounter runtime errors when you open your QuickBooks Statement Writer.

To resolve this issue, you'll need to uninstall and then reinstall Office with the 32-bit choice. Here's how:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu.
  2. Search for “Control Panel”, then open Control Panel.
  3. Choose Programs and Features or Uninstall a Program.
  4. From the list of installed programs, select Office 365 (64-bit).
  5. Click Uninstall/Change, then Remove.
  6. Hit Next, then follow the onscreen instruction to complete the process.
  7. Install Office (32-bit).

Additionally, I encourage reading this article to learn the tips and tricks in using the QuickBooks Statement Writer: Use and navigate QSW.
