Release notes for QuickBooks Desktop 2019

Learn what’s new and improved in the latest updates to QuickBooks Desktop 2019 and Enterprise 19.0.

We update QuickBooks regularly to give you a better experience and fix issues. These release notes explain what's new and improved.

Note that each new update includes all the changes from earlier updates.

If you have automatic updates turned on, QuickBooks will download updates for you. But you can check for updates manually at any time.

Release 17 (R17) - April 2022

What’s important about Release 17?

Discontinuation Policy

Service discontinuation will occur after May 31st, 2022. Notification messages for the following:

  • Accountant Copy File Transfer (ACFT)
  • Multi currency - download exchange rates
  • Contributed Reports - share and rate custom reports

What’s important about Release 16?

Account ManagementThe QuickBooks company file uses the Intuit Account to connect to online services. With this update, we’re asking the QuickBooks Admin to sign into their Intuit Account if they have not done so in a long time.
Report issue fixWith this release, you can open your memorized reports from QuickBooks 2018. After you update, rebuild data and it'll repair your reports.
User ManagementNon Admin users of QuickBooks Enterprise with the accounts payable role can now send a Request for Access to the Primary Admin to join the company file Intuit account.
Account ManagementAccessing Manage My QuickBooks account, from the Help menu, no longer requires an Intuit account to sign in if the user has already done so elsewhere in the file.
Payroll Direct DepositWhen activating direct deposit for payroll, a user that is neither Primary nor Secondary Admin can Request for Access from the Primary Admin.
Issue fixFixed issue where Processed Payment Receipt wasn't aligned after processing transaction.

What’s important about Release 14?

User Management
  • Admin users are now able to edit the user ID while signing into the Intuit account within QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Users can send Request for Access (RFA) to the primary admin to become part of the company file Intuit account when signing into the company file or by signing into My Company.
Tax 1099 NEC and MISC
  • QuickBooks Desktop now supports 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC print and eFiling. 
  • Third-party applications  can use the latest Software Developer Kit (SDK) to support e-filing of 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC forms for QuickBooks Desktop customers.

Compliance requirements for cards stored in company file
    Merchants will be required to confirm that they have written authorization from their customers when saving the credit card information. Stored credential compliance is mandated by card networks like Visa, MasterCard and Discover to improve authorization and the overall customer experience.
User Management
  • When creating a new company file, the Admin must create or add an Intuit account to the file within 28 days and should no longer receive persistent messaging to do so.
  • Having an Intuit Account attached to the company file makes it easier to connect and maintain product features and services.
  • The company file admin will now be able to Invite other employees to create an Intuit account.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed an issue where Washington DC Paid Family Leave could not be removed for some employees.
  • Fixed issue loading Federal 941 form when there were no paychecks.
  • Fixed certificate issue that was preventing Business Planner from loading.
  • Fixed issue with Invoices for All Customers report where toggling Sort By or selecting Print Report resulted in numbers in "Aging" column changing.
  • Fixed an issue where PO number field entered against an invoice appears blank when viewing or exporting transactions on a report from the Customer Center.
  • Fixed an issue that was preventing ability to toggle from one edition to another.
  • Fixed an issue that resulted in repeated requests to log into Intuit Account after having successfully done so.

  • Updates for 2020 payroll compliance
US Federal W-4 2020
  • QuickBooks Payroll now supports the new 2020 W-4 as well as continuing to support the 2019 and prior W-4.
Payroll Reports 
  • You can now generate reports for State Mandated Retirement deductions for Oregon, Illinois and California.
US Payroll Compliance
  • Payroll has been updated to ensure continued compliance with United States payroll tax laws.
Simplify Install
  • The install experience has been updated to be easier and more stable.
Payroll Status for Direct Deposit 
  • View the detailed status of direct deposit payroll without have to check emails or call CARE
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed an issue that caused the warning message "Items not assigned classes" to not display while saving a reimbursable invoice.
  • Fixed an unintended warning to some users when opening the Employee center

  • Access to QuickBooks Capital

  • Email security
QuickBooks Capital
  • Payments customers now have access to QuickBooks Capital as a business funding option.
  • You can now activate manual payroll from the Preferences menu.
  • Employers can now invite employees to self setup via a secure website.
  • Improved the email security when using the Gmail option, to comply with Google's privacy policy.
  • Simplified install experience, improving stability and performance.
Accountant's Copy
  • Resolved issue causing QuickBooks to crash when importing a .qby file.
Bug Fixes
  • Resolved issue preventing changes to contact details after converting a lead to a customer.
  • Enabled users to be able to print unlimited pick-lists at once (QBES).
  • Corrected issue when using Last Fiscal YTD filter on Bill and Income Tracker.
  • Linked to a solution when QuickBooks asks to have all Outlook windows closed when sending invoices.

What's important about Release 9?

  • Updates to Payroll compliance
Payroll compliance
For Payroll users in the following states
  • Indiana (except Assisted). You're now able to set up your employees' State Occupational Code(SOC) as seasonal and file State Unemployment Income (SUI) quarterly using the XLT tool.
  • Maine. You can now set up your employees' SOC as seasonal.
  • Washington. You can now identify and correct Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML) discrepancies before quarterly filing.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed the issue where the invoice history appears as blank if you use the credit memo to pay the invoice.
  • Fixed the Payments Login icon issue when emailing an invoice.
  • Fixed the issue where an error page displays when a user clicks Customers - Link Payment Services to Company File.
  • Fixed an issue to show Past Due stamp after clicking What's New when on an invoice.
  • Fixed the error that appeared when closing Accountant copy files.

What's important about Release 7?

  • Change to QuickBooks File Manager password reset
QuickBooks File Manager Password Reset
  • License based password reset replaces the challenge based password reset process.
Bug Fixes
  • Bug fixes include:
    • Resolved issue where discrepancies were observed when accountant copied files were used for Pick, Pack, and Ship.
    • Fixed an issue with credit cardholder name not appearing in an EMV transaction.

What's important about Release 6?

  • IIF Import improvements and bug fixes
Duplicate Data Lines
  • If you have an IIF import file that have duplicate data lines, the file will now import successfully EXCEPT for the duplicate data lines.
Import for items with hidden parents
  • Accounts, customers, class and inventory items with hidden parents will now import successfully.
IIF Import Bug Fixes
  • Bug fixes include:
    • Invoices that have both invoice and credit lines now import successfully
    • Deposit transactions with 2 decimal points will now import
    • Issues with importing employee names has been resolved
    • Format for time in decimal and hours only is now supported
    • Field for Doc Reference number for payments and bills has been extended from 11 to 20 characters
PerformancePerformance improvement for FIFO enabled company files when saving inventory related transactions (especially effective for large company files)
Data corruption resolved
The issue that caused data corruption when voiding an invoice that was created from a sales order has been resolved.
Incorrect reporting resolvedThe issue that was causing the Inventory Stock Status by Site and the Inventory Valuation Summary by Site to display twice the correct quantity has been resolved.

  • Fixed an issue that will cause Error 1328 for some users when installing Release 4 (R4).

Accountant's Copy File Transfer
  • We've made improvements to the ACFT experience for better collaboration with accountants.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed! Crash issue while applying credits to Invoice
  • Fixed! Error when closing QBA files if you have 2019 and lower QuickBooks version on the same PC
Fixed Asset Manager
  • Update for calculations in order to support the Tax Cut and Jobs Act of 2017
  • Enhanced IIF import and fixes to common bugs and known issues:
    • Accept decimal and standard time format in the Timer activity record
    • IIF import for employee names
    • IIF invoice to allow negative qty in the same invoice
    • Fixed the spelling to ENDTRNS
Payroll Compliance
  • QBDT Payroll products are completely compliant with US tax laws giving you complete confidence that you are paying your employees right.
Payroll reports
  • You can now generate "State Mandated Retirement" reports for states that require reporting of retirements deductions from each employee’s paycheck.
Payroll OnboardingThe following issues are now fixed!
  • We've incorporated a simpler and faster in-product Payroll purchase experience.
  • After purchase, you can easily onboard to QuickBooks Desktop Payroll. With the ‘Express Setup’ option, you can quickly add your employees, set up their pay and benefits and run your first payroll.
Self Help
  • Improved discovery of content and Intuit support channels in the help panel.
QuickBooks Time
  • Integrate your QuickBooks Time account directly from within QuickBooks with an updated integration method.
  • Set up a QuickBooks Time account directly within QuickBooks before integrating.

  • Improvements to Invoice Tracker
  • SDK enhancements
  • Troubleshoot and fix errors related to saving forms as pdf or printing them
Accounts Receivable
  • Fixed an issue causing an invoice form to freeze for users with Microsoft Outlook (all versions) installed.
Bank Feeds
  • Improved messaging & fixes for common error scenarios in Bank Feeds.
  • Cycle count allows you to keep a track of the actual inventory at any point in time without having to shut down the warehouse for a few days for a physical inventory count. With the cycle count, you can track inventory in a way that will help reduce pilferage and cost while improving accuracy.
Invoice Status Tracker
  • Support for QuickBooks Email
  • Messaging for Outlook 2010 customers to outline unavailability of Viewed Status due to technical limitations of this Outlook version
  • Fixes for known bugs and stability improvements
  • Fixed an issue when void transaction is failing
  • Sick/Vacation Pay: You can now allow your employees to carry over the limited number of unused sick hours from previous year to the current year and decide the limit on the number of unused sick hours that can be carried over by your employees.
  • Fixed! Employee information is missing after the upgrade.
Pick, Pack, Ship (Enterprise)The following issues are now fixed!
  • Inventory reports using the terminology "stock" instead of "inventory"
  • When in the multi-user mode, locks should now be released on a Sales Order once packing list creation is completed
  • Issue with shipped quantity appearing to be zero in the printed packing slip though it has some value
  • Column alignment issue causing notes overlap with Delivery Date column
  • Clear Search button is now available
  • MC 40 Device: Ghost text in the PO search screen and item search is no longer truncated
Print PDF
  • Users will now have a troubleshoot button to fix errors when saving forms as PDF or printing them.
User Interface
  • Improved error messages with clear instructions if action is required.
