Tags is currently a new feature, sjmstudioq.

We're adding this feature to new companies all the time, so if you don't see Tags yet, no worries, we're working to turn on tags for everyone soon. Once the feature is available here's how to create Tags.

  1. Go to Gear icon at the upper-right and select Tags.
  2. Select the New ▼ drop-down and then Tag group.
  3. Enter a name, and select a color from the drop-down.
  4. Click elect Save.

Meantime, you can use the Class feature that track specific line items. For more details on how to tag transactions and how to use them, check out these articles:

Just let me know if there's anything else that you need help with. You take care and have a great day!

I just opened my new account in QBO (moving from Desktop) , so I would suppose that I am a New company, but the feature is not there. I am quite familiar with the Class function on the Desktop version, but alas that function is also not available in the Plus account that I just opened. I don't have Classes in All Lists menu as the online instructions state. I decided to go with Plus on the recommendation of the rep I spoke to on the phone who assured me that Plus had the Class feature that I require. Please tell me what I need to do to get this feature functioning before I build out my company online.

Thank you.

Yes, the class feature is available in the Plus version, Sjmstudioq. We'll just have to turn it on.

Just follow the easy steps:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Account and settings.
  3. Go to the Advanced tab.
  4. Click the Pencil icon in the Categories section.
  5. Tick the Track classes box.
  6. Under Assign classes, select either One to entire transaction or One to each row in transaction.
  7. Click Save, then Done.

Once done, you can create a new class already. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon, then go to All lists.
  2. Select Classes.
  3. Click New.
  4. Enter a desired name, then click Save.

Greetings, I know that Tags are being rolled out slowly, but is there some way we can a shortlist. We would benefit greatly from having tags.  We knew that tags were introduced earlier this year and assumed that they would have been released to all, but understand that the world has been slowed by COVID.

Thanks.

I'm glad that you're interested in this new feature, jerryminer.

We always want to make sure that the rollout will be completed as soon as possible. Although we don't consider who are those that must be prioritized. But we'll make sure that everything will be 100% percent completed.

Could you please explain what the process for rolling out the tags feature involves and why the rollout across the QOL user base is taking so long (many months)?

It's not clear why a new feature such as tags is not immediately available across all users/companies. After all, isn't one of the key advantages of cloud solutions that new features get rolled out instantaneously? What is it about the tagging feature that precludes this?

Thanks!

These are good questions, Zcwillo. Let me explain how it works.

When we have new features, the process is we roll it out to a few clusters first. The reason for this is we're taking their feedback. It helps us know if they like the new option or if there are other things they want to change or add. That's why sometimes it takes months for us to roll it out to all of the users. We're making sure it's working well, and our customers will surely benefit from it.

I know the tag feature is important. Although, we're just preparing everything and ensuring it's working well before providing it to all users. You'll want to check the QuickBooks blog now and then for any updates. You can open the website MariaSoledadG provided.

In the meantime, you can use the class or location feature. It will help you track the income and expenses for multiple sites or departments.
