Trip/Mileage Tracking

I just realized that my Self-Employed mileage has not been tracked for over a MONTH. My settings have never changed, have worked until NOW and Intuit's customer support team says I now have to MANUALLY enter all of the data I relied on their APP to track.
Has anybody else encountered this ? Is there a way to retrieve that data other than my MEMORY ?

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, sechman.

I'm here to share what I know about Automatic Mileage Tracking.

If the trips were not tracked, there isn't a way that we can retrieve them. We'll have to manually enter them on the app. The QBSE app relies on the phone settings, which can sometimes affect the automatic mileage tracking. I suggest checking your device settings to ensure the location access is set to Always.

Please follow the outlined steps in this article: Troubleshooting Automatic Mileage Tracking Issues

My settings NEVER changed. That's where my irritation lies. The only change was I hadn't looked at the app to ensure it was tracking because it was working, previously. Setting was set to "Always", always.
So the app was supposed to have been tracking. The fault lies with the app, itself. Putting the onus on me is ridiculous.

Same here - some days it tracks all my trips, some days it begins tracking halfway through the day, some days it does not track anything at all. I have been through all the steps from the troubleshooting guide, still the same problem. I have worked with tech support but they just refer me to the troubleshooting steps. Also, all my trips are within the DFW metroplex, so cell coverage should be solid. Using an iPhone 7. Very frustrating since we pay $10/month for the privilege of having to now manually enter our mileage and manually enter anything we purchase and sell to our customers, plus the whole Sales Tax issue. I'm reevaluating whether this is worth it.

Same here. Have been using the app for more than a year now and suddenly, a month ago, stopped tracking my mileage.

Never changed my settings and have the same phone since started using the app.

What's going on please?

I reset my settings OFTEN because the app won't remain stable. The "help" the Intuit "people", (I think they are actually BOTS), is absolutely horrible.

I check it every couple of days and a good thing, too, as it goes to crap, regularly.

You tracking in the app remains unstable, unreliable and hardly usable. With all of the millions of dollars in revenue you garner, it would be appreciated if you spent some on programmers who FIX THINGS.

Hi everyone,

With the most recent iOS 12 update (released September 17), there were new settings launched that have a critical impact on the mileage tracking feature. If you have an iPhone, please review our latest announcement that'll walk you through checking these new updates so that you're all set to track immediately - https://community.intuit.com/announcements/1758115

If you have an Android, there weren't any major system updates recently, but we pushed a new update last Thursday that has positively impacted a lot of our customers' mileage tracking. Please double-check that you have the latest update for your QuickBooks Self-Employed app. If you're still experiencing mileage tracking issues with your Android, please refer to the latest updated guide here - https://community.intuit.com/articles/1763674-android-mileage-tracking-troubleshooting-guide

Do any of the other QBO apps track mileage?

My auto tracking quit working in November. I have a google pixel 2. I have been trying to get it to work since then and finally started using another app, but would like to get quickbooks mileage tracking to work. The automatic tracking toggle button will not stay in the on position. We have went through ALL the trouble shooting suggestions several times, checked all the phone settings, the app and the phone are updated, uninstalled and reinstalled the app twice. My husband got it to work on his phone no problem (different android phone), but it will not work on mine.

Hello there, rclk.

Thank you for all the information you've provided. You can check your phone settings to see if it's not affecting your mileage tracking.

These settings often force-quit or sleep your account which means, the app cannot track your mileage.

One of these settings is the Battery's Optimization, here's how to check it.

  1.  Go to your phone's Settings.
  2. Select the Battery button.
  3. Click the  (menu) icon in the upper right.
  4. Choose Battery Optimization.
  5. Select All Apps.
  6. Swipe down to S and look for Self-Employed.
  7. Lastly, select the Not Optimized option.

You can check this article to check the lists of the other settings and its troubleshooting: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1763674-android-mileage-tracking-troubleshooting-guide.

Let me know if you have other concerns. I'd be glad to help.

My mileage tracking has also stopping populating.  Is it only a free trial?  I find the Mile IQ app to be very frustrating and hard to use.  Any ideas?

Thanks for jumping in, ADHunker.

The app is not a free trial. My colleague KimberlyT has shared information about this. You can check her post here, or you can scroll up.

A quick update about my problem with the QB mileage tracking - none of the hoops suggested by QB worked, so I gave up on that part of the program when I found an app called MileIQ. It worked correctly from day one and allows me to do all that the QB app tried to do with mileage tracking but could not. There is a free and paid version. I have no complaints with this new program after using it for 6 to 8 months. Good luck everyone.
