When I manually add a transaction and put it under the category of "materials & supplies" why was it not automatically considered a deduction? Do I need to physically upload the receipt before it's considered legitimate?

Hello there, mirandaeagon19-g.

I have tried adding a transaction from my end and it automatically set as a deduction. We can try to delete and re-create the transaction to see if it works.

To delete, put a check mark on the transaction and click the Recycle bin icon. Please see this sample screenshot:

Otherwise, we can do some basic troubleshooting steps to check if this is caused by a browser-related issue.

Open an incognito or private browser and sign in to your QuickBooks Self-Employed account. This mode prevents your browsing history from being stored. You can use the keyboard shortcuts below:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Option P

Then, go to Transactions tab and add the transaction. If it's added as a deduction, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. Please make sure to close and re-open your browser afterwards.

Using other supported browser can be a good alternative, too.

Please feel free to tell me how it goes after trying out these steps. I'm here to help you out again. Thanks.
