Digital Business Cards

Good afternoon Community! Thanks for tuning in to another entry here in the Business Discussion board. We've previously talked about physical, tangible business cards, but what about a digital business card? I read an article posted on lifewire.com that went over all the key points of using a digital card. Here's what they had to say...

You know me, I like to start with the basics - "A digital business card (sometimes called a virtual or electronic business card) is a way to share contact information via the internet. Digital business cards can be created on a desktop computer or mobile device." Pretty straightforward, and the good news is you likely already have the software to make your own digital card! Such as the "contacts" section of your phone.

Much like a regular business card, the digital version is used to as a collection of all of your contact info to easily share with other. Another benefit of virtual cards is this can be done with just a couple clicks! Which in turn means you can share with an even larger audience. Additionally you aren't restricted by size so you can add as many details as you want, photos, logos, AND social media links. Sounds like a win win... win!

I mentioned sharing an e-card with a greater crowd and you may be asking how. There are several options available. According to the article, "Some online tools generate a card that you can attach to the bottom of an email in the form of a signature. Some people send them out in a text or share them using QR codes. Some business card apps even have a feature that allows users to send them to others without having to send a link or code."

Here are a few more pros and cons to consider:
Pros
  • Convenient
  • Never runs out
  • Flexible (easy to edit)
  • Don't have to throw away excess
Cons
  • Requires internet access
  • No one central repository for digital business cards since different formats are often incompatible with one another
  • Lack personal touch
So what do you think? After reading this article I can definitely see having both a digital and physical business card. Which do you prefer? Lets talk about it in the comments!
