Happy Wednesday! and welcome back to our discussion page. Recently, I have been seeking ways to improve my personal and professional development. I was encouraged to watch a youtube video by Randy Paush call the "The Last Lecture." This was my first time learning about this person, and I wish someone told me about him sooner.
Just a little back story, he was a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon who change the game as we know. He was later diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Once discovering this, he was inspired to leave a legacy behind, and that is where this inspirational lecture called "Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams" came to life. Today, I wanted to share one statement from this that really resonated with me.
"The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people that don’t want it bad enough. They’re there to stop the ‘other’ people. "
In life, many obstacles block us from achieving what we want. I will be honest with you, sometimes I give in and let things be, yet I'm never fully satisfied, or I would make excuses and sometimes self-sabotage. At times it's best to take a step back and look at the bigger picture to realize that failure is inevitable, yet it's your next move that makes it count. Are you going to sulk in your inability or press on and try again? The only person that is stopping you is you. It can be a challenge to pursue your dream, but there is always a different angle or a way to overcome this. This is where our mindset has to change and believe that these barriers are set in life to improve our skills. Remember that this is only temporary, but what's over that "brick wall" is opportunities. Determination plays a factor to take control and achieve your goals, your purpose, and your dreams. As he mentioned, the brick wall isn't there for you; it is there for ‘other’ people.
I hope this encourages you to get up and accomplish what you want in life. Don't let situations or problems discourage you. Find a way to overcome that and press on! Until then, continue to be safe and be well, my Community comrades.
I love this! I am going to share this with our group. Thank you!
Lynda
