Decades user here. Always print and mail my 1099s/1096 myself. With the new e-file mandate, is efile available to me? I still want to print and mail my 1099s, I just want to know if I have the ability to efile with the IRS through QB? Unfortunately I delayed signing up on the free IRIS portal through the IRS and it is a 45 day approval process. I have searched here for posts about it but there is nothing current, and I am seeing mixed information about it being free or not and also whether or not QB mails the 1099s to my subs, which I do not want. I just need to IRS efile this year only, I will do it myself directly with IRS in future years.
Hello, Cupcake04.
Thanks for bringing your question forward here in the Community. I'm happy to provide some info about e-filing the 1099 form in your QuickBooks Desktop account.
After preparing your 1099s in QuickBooks, select the E-file button to follow the onscreen steps to import your data into your Tax1099 account. After importing, you'll see the Tax1099 Dashboard displaying the list of vendors, amounts, and boxes.
From here:
1. Select the vendor name or the Edit button to edit the vendor or box information, then select Update. Note: Changes you make in Tax1099 don't flow back to your QuickBooks company file.
2. If you need to file 1099s with your state, enter the information under the appropriate state boxes.
3. Select the vendors you want to upload to e-file by checking the box, then select Next. If there are any errors, a pop-up message will appear. Once corrected, select the vendors again, then select Next.
4. Select the vendors by checking the box next to the Date column. Choose how you want to send copies to the recipient/vendors by checking the box under USPS Mail or Email Recipient. You may also select Download Multiple PDFs to provide vendors their copies yourself. Note: There is an extra fee if USPS Mail is selected.
5. If you need to file with your state, choose them here, then select Next or Calculate Tax1099.com Fee to see the total filing fee.
6. When you are finished with the options on the Select Forms page, you're taken to the Payment page. Once you enter your payment info, select Pay & Submit to e-File.
7. If you need to create both 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC, you’ll need to repeat the steps for the other form.

Thanks so much for your reply. To clarify your response:
1. - I can process, print and mail myself through QB as always, then when I do efile I can choose Download Mutiple PDFs option and QB will not email or mail to vendors?
2. - What is the fee or range of what the fee could be? I have no clue is it $50 or $250? Is the fee included in my payroll subscription?
Thanks for following up, Cupcake04.
1. That's correct. QuickBooks will not automatically email or mail copies of the 1099 to your vendors. In the e-filing process there is an option to choose how you want to send copies to the recipient/vendors.
2. E-filing is unlimited and included with your QuickBooks Payroll subscription:
"Unlimited 1099 e-file: Create and e-file unlimited 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC forms in QuickBooks. 1099 forms are e-filed only for the current filing year and for payments recorded in QuickBooks to your vendors or contractors. Includes state filings for eligible states participating in IRS Combined Federal/State Filing program; please check with your state agency on any additional state filing requirements. Additional fees may apply to print and mail a copy to your vendors and contractors and to other upgrades or add-on services."

I'm only a comment or post away if you have any other questions.
So I was able to upload to Tax1099 site, however I get to the payment screen and they are charging me $35 to just efile with Fed (no emailing/mailing/printing of any of my 1099-NEC). Is there a coupon code I need to enter for the QB free filing???
I’m glad to hear you were able to upload your documents to the Tax1099 site successfully, @Cupcake04. However, encountering unexpected fees can be confusing, especially when managing your business finances efficiently. Let's address your concerns regarding the e-filing charges.
Currently, QuickBooks does not offer free e-filing of 1099 forms through Tax1099 or similar platforms. The charge you're seeing is standard for the e-filing service provided by Tax1099, covering the secure processing and submission of your forms to the IRS. Although there is a fee for this service, it's important to recognize the convenience and compliance benefits it offers. E-filing through Tax1099 ensures that your forms are processed accurately and meet all IRS requirements for timeliness and format.
