Since you have paid the tax credit manually, the IRS should be the one to notify you when the credit will be applied. Right then, you can utilize this article on what to do if you have received the notice.
However, if you did not receive any notification from the IRS and you want to apply the overpayment to the next quarter or a request instead, follow these steps:
1. On the left panel of your QBO account, select taxes. Go to Taxes, then Payroll Tax.
2. Choose Payroll tax, then click on the Payments tab.
3. Look for the Overpaid tax, then tap Resolve. Contact us for help if you don’t see the Resolve option.
4. Select one of the following if available:
- Request a refund (Know that you’ll have to contact your tax agency to get your refund)
- Apply to a future tax payment (recommended)
5. Choose Confirm, then Done.
6. If you want a refund or tax applied to future periods, kindly consult the IRS or your state agency.
