1099-NEC Preparing in QBO

The link is not helpful for knowing which state in my situation to file.  Unfortunately, due to Covid, the states do not have anyone manning phones.  I've sent emails but haven't received a response.

Per the IRS 1099-NEC instructions, the state withholding number is not required by the IRS since there was no withholding.  Since QB is not filing the 1099 information with the state, is there a way to leave the state withholding number off the form?  That way I can go ahead and get the 1099-NEC completed and filed with the IRS while I'm figuring out the state.

We're unable to remove this data, ARP.

The boxes included in the form are not editable. This information should be taken from your state.

I'm not asking to modify the form but to leave the box blank since it is not required by the IRS.  Can the state withholding number box be left blank?  Our tax accountant said the information should be filed with the state the independent contractor is located not the state the company is based.

Thanks for getting back to us, ARP.

Yes, you can leave the state withholding number box blank. However, I'd still suggest getting in touch with your State. They'll be able to provide the correct way of tracking your withholdings and ensure your 1099-NEC form is accurate.

To know the state requirements in filing 1099s in QuickBooks Online, check out this article: Do I need to file 1099 forms with my state?. It contains more details on what state doesn't require to file Forms 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC.

Additionally, you can read through this write-up to know more about the new 1099-NEC form as well as a link on how to file them: Understanding payment categories for the 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC.

1099-NEC Preparing in QBO

THIS IS THE USUAL QUICK BOOOKS MESS -- I HAVE PAID 1099's in QUICKBOOKS FOR 25 YEARS -- NOW ALL OF THE SUDDEN, ALL MY VENDORS ARE COMING BACK AS "0"  FOR THE AMOUNT TO REPORT I CANNOT CHANGE THE REPORTING BOX, I CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHY ALL THE NEC PAYMENTS ARE COMING BACK ZERO AND THERE ARE NO INSTRUCTIONS IN HOW TO FIX THIS!

YOUR UPDATE DOES NOT WORK!

1099-NEC Preparing in QBO

Note as a Certified Professional Bookkeeper, and who has used QBO  and Pro for many years, I can tell you that you can not currently use QBO to print 3-to-a-page NEC 1099s.  Just confirmed with QBO customer service.  Their goal is to get you to pay for their package, not use forms purchased from Amazon/Office Depot.  This is unlikely to change for next year, as profit and add on sales are always their priority.  Desktop versions of QB are more friendly and customizable, and the NEC form upgrades have been done.  As of January 2022, the only way to get around the QBO limits, and how I made the QBO data fit NEC forms, is to create an Excel spreadsheet (format to match the IRS Copy A) and import data fields.  If you only have a few to issue, more efficient to type into that and print on to your forms.  If QBO has you over a barrel, please do not pay for their "packages".  Write a review and create your own 1099s.  Good luck, Portland OR Bookkeeper.

1099-NEC Preparing in QBO

Hello,

I filled out the 1099 MISC. for a contractor and it was after the deadline.  The amounts weren't filled in on the form. How do I still get the 1099 to my contractor even though its past the deadline
