Can I remove the sales tax line from my invoices?

I'd be glad to help you remove the sales tax line from your invoices. Simply follow these steps to turn off its settings. Here's how:
 

1. Go to the Taxes menu and select Sales Tax Settings.
2. Click Turn off sales tax. 
3. Select Yes to confirm.

Once done, this will now remove the Select tax rate line and TAX column from your invoices.

Additionally, there are several financial reports you can run to track your sales income in QuickBooks. They will show you helpful insights into the things you buy and sell, and the status of your inventory.

As of 12/20/2022 this button is no longer available/visible on that page. Is there another solution?

I recognize how important Turning off sales tax option is. This is unavailable in QuickBooks Online. As a workaround, we can deselect the product and services from being taxable to prevent collecting tax when creating an invoice. 

We can also make your customers tax-exempt and set up an item as nontaxable to be used when you don't want to tax the customer. Once you have set up your Sales tax, you have the option to set a sales tax category for each item. Then, every time you use it when creating a transaction, it'll automatically be nontaxable.

We may consider also deactivating the State tax from the Sales Tax Center.

1. Go to the Taxes tab and select Sales Tax.
2. Click the Sales tax settings link.
3. Locate the agency.
4. Click the Edit drop-down and select Make inactive.

This work around does not remove the sales tax line item from a customer's invoice. How do I keep the line item "TAX: 0.00" from appearing on an invoice?

Go to the

Sales Tax Settings.

Select the Non-Taxable for Tax Code.

For Tax Item, choose Non-Taxable as well.

May be helpful for you guys.

This does not remove the sales tax line item from a customer's invoice. The line item "TAX: 0.00" still appears on the invoice after completing these steps.

Did you find a solution for this? I've called quickbooks and they seem clueless.

I also like the idea of ​​removing the Tax line from the Totals section of an invoice, especially for non-taxable customers. While this is not an option right now, I recommend sending feedback to our engineers so they can consider adding such an option in future updates.

1. Click on the Gear icon.

3. Enter a sentence to describe your feedback and click Next.

Is there any update on this issue? To be clear, this is not a request for a new feature -- this is an OLD feature that is no longer available. I assume this was broken by mistake by the QBO team (which happens literally all the time) since removing this feature on purpose makes no sense at all: a huge portion of QBO users are service businesses, which don't charge sales tax, and therefore don't want extraneous "TAX: $0" lines on every invoice.

Can you please actually send this to the product team and find out what's going on?

I have the exact same problem. It is incredible to me that you can turn something on but then cannot turn it off. How can this not be a simple problem to solve?

I can cetainly understand how an ability to remove the Sales Tax line from invoices could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.

You can also submit your own feature requests while signed in.

Here's how:

1. Use the Gear icon, then go to Feedback.
2. Enter your suggestion(s) in the Have feedback? window.
3. If necessary, attach a file with your Camera icon.
4. Select Next.

C'mon QBO, it's been almost a year since your only solution to the problem of eliminating sales tax was to submit feedback to that effect. It still hasn't changed. Remind me again why you keep pushing companies to migrate to this inferior product.lol

I am joining this conversation in the hopes that a solution will be posted soon. I also have the problem that the Tax line was added accidentally and now cannot be removed from Customer Invoices that do not need the tax line. 

I can share additional information about removing sales tax line from your invoices, @greg-smithcosales.

The option to remove the sales tax line once added to your invoices is currently unavailable. This will be a great addition to the current features that we have, so I'll take note of it. I also recommend you leaving feedback from within the account.

Here are the steps to do that:

1. Go to the Gear icon and select Feedback. 
    
2. Provide your product suggestion.
3. Click on Next to submit feedback.

How can this issue be going on for so long without a fix.  Is there other accounting applications out there?

I get that the line can't be removed however when I create an invoice I have to manually deselect the tax option as it's already selected by default. How do I remove that from being default?

To ensure it doesn't automatically select, the products and services you choose should be configured as non-taxable items. Here's how:

1. From the left panel, click the Sales menu.

2. Select Products and Services and locate the item you've selected on the invoice.

3. Tap the Edit hyperlink in the Sales Tax section, and click Edit Sales Tax.

4. Then, choose Non-taxable and click Done.

Hi QBO Team,

I do not feel this situation is acceptable. Whislt a lot of people are not complaining this issue has been going on since 2021. It should have been resolved by now even if a single person had asked. How can you charge my a monthly fee whilst there is a problem not fixed for years. 

Can QBO please readd the option of switching of the tax feature. 

I was doing exactly as some people is saying which is just exploring the possiblity of having taxes on my invoice for the future but now i cannot re deactivate same. 

I dont think your customers are asking a lot when they are asking for a previously available feature to be placed back into function. 

I am not interested in your workarounds for this issue. I just want a button that can switch this feature completely off.
