You are right the IRS is closed. In 26 years in business I have NEVER needed a 10 digit pin, only my 4 digit pass code. I guess we cannot even mail them as we are set up for e-file which does not work anymore.
IRS says on the phone that the software should help us set up 10 digit pin. Getting the run around here.
I finally got an answer from IRS. I've been filing for as long as you could e file and they said it was built into software from first usage and software updates can delete it. You can send 941 by mail if anything like this happens esp while waiting for the mail.
@doodholliday wrote:I am required to use a 10 digit PIN to file IRS tax form
Apparently I have one but cannot find/remember it
EFTPS says to call the IRS
The IRS doesn't answer because the government is closed (!?!)
I submit for a new one but got rejected because I already have one
Can someone PLEASE help me and make this madness STOP
How did you get your 10 digit EPIN after QuickBooks lost it? I have had the same issue. Applied and have used the 10 digit E-File Pin and have the box "remember" clicked for the past 17 years. Updated to QuickBooks 2022 and now my pin is lost. I have no idea where I placed the original letter 17 years ago. I have tried calling the IRS eServices, but have been unsuccessful speaking to anyone. Very frustrating. I haven't mailed a 941 Report in so long and am not confident in the mail service these days to file via snail mail.
LSanchez2,
I'm running onto the same issue. I have been on the phone and on hold with the IRS, several times and getting the run around as well. QB knows this is an issue, yet they do nothing to help resolve the problem. Very frustrating to say the least. All they do is say call the IRS...not impresses with QB right now!!
These links did not work even when I tried in a different browser.
Hello there, @kerryboersma.
I want to ensure this is taken care of, but first, may I know which link you are trying to open? This way, I can give you the correct one.
Any information that will elaborate on the problem will help.
I hope you can respond to me on this thread so we can work on your concerns together. Please know I'm ready to assist further.
The link https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/set-up-e-file/e-file-10-digit-pin-lost-or-missing-... did not work. I guess I will keep trying to call the IRS which is so timely. I was just hoping there was a better way to get the missing 10 digit PIN for filing 941's through QB's desktop.
Kerry,
Make sure when you call the IRS you have permission to speak on be half of the company. I sat on hold 54 minutes, then be told I was not an authorized person on the account, but yet I'm the one that set it up. So, I'm no further ahead.
I am having the exact same issue! Please help!
Hello there, @DonnaEc.
I can see you've been through a lot in trying to acquire the 10-digit PIN for your E-file. I'm here to share some information on how you can have one.
Since the IRS provides the PIN, you’ll have to reach out to them for a PIN reset as it is considered missing or lost. Here's how:
Please keep a copy of it moving forward to ensure that the PIN will not be lost again.
Furthermore, make sure you have the most recent payroll tax table to avoid any disruptions while processing your E-file/E-pay in QuickBooks.
Once you’re all set, you can file your forms through QuickBooks. Refer to the detailed steps outlined in this article: E-file and e-pay federal forms and taxes in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Enhanced.
If you have other QuickBooks questions or concerns, just press the Reply button below. I'll be right here to help you. Keep safe!
Just got off the phone with QB's where I was told that I had to call EFTPS/IRS to get the number and that they (QB's) did not have that information.
i donot have 10 digit pin to file fed payrole
Welcome to the Community, @milak. I'm glad to see you here.
You may enroll your business for a 10-digit pin to e-file and e-pay federal taxes and forms in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll. Here's how:
1. Set up your federal filing method.
2. Enroll in the IRS e-file program.
Take note that this individual must be connected to your business and cannot be an accountant or third-party service provider.
When the agency gets your QuickBooks Desktop enrolment, it will indicate Accepted and you will be mailed a 10-digit e-file PIN.
Follow steps 1 and 2 above to resend your request if the IRS denied or did not receive your enrollment.

You need to enroll for the IRS 10-digit PIN using your Quickbooks software. I did not receive any notification from IRS or Intuit that this was a requirement that became effective sometime after I successfully e-filed my 2nd Qtr 2022 941. My 3rd and 4th quarter 2022 941 e-filings were both rejected.
Here are the rejection details:
Problem: The Signature (PIN) for this return is not valid for the EIN.
Solution: You must enter the 10 digit numeric PIN that the IRS has on file for your federal EIN.
To resolve: In Quickbooks > Go to your Payroll Center > click on File Forms
Go to bottom of window in the Other Activities box and click on Change Filing Method
Under Taxes click on Filing Methods (when I did this all of my forms were already set as e-file)
Click on Continue and follow the instructions to enroll for your e-file PIN.
You will receive your PIN within 45 days via us mail from the IRS.
This is the correct answer for all previous posts on this issue. Neither IRS, nor Intuit informed Quickbook users to request a 10-digit e-file PIN. This is something new. Guessing none of you really lost this PIN, I suspect that none of you, just like me, never knew to enrolled to e-file with this 10-digit PIN, despite having e-filed for years without any problem in the past.

This may be obvious to most people but I didn't think about it. If you have this problem you probably aren't going to be able to sort it out before you need to send in your forms to the IRS, but you can still mail them. Just go in single user mode and change your filing method to print and mail then print them up and send them in following the instructions.
I need new pin number
We’re glad to have you here in the Community, 118229. Let me provide details about retrieving your 10-digit PIN for e-filing in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
In order to receive your new 10-digit PIN promptly, it's best to contact the IRS directly. They are the only ones who can issue the PIN if it's lost or missing, so reaching out to them will help you regain access and keep your tax filing on track.
Here’s how you can proceed:
Additionally, you can read this article to learn more about e-filing and paying your payroll taxes in QBDT: Setting up Federal e-file and e-pay.
Once you’ve obtained your PIN from the IRS, you can resume e-filing and paying your payroll taxes. If the timing doesn’t align with your deadlines, you can choose to pay and file them manually.
