I have an issue that I can't seem to get any help on. I am an employer in the State of Washington and have to file quarterly wage reports and pay into both Paid Family Medical Leave and something called "WA CARES." Before setting up in Quickbooks, I had been reporting manually, but switched over to the automatic filing through Quickbooks at the beginning of 2024.
However, I just got a notice from the State that there was a balance on my account, which I thought was weird because I have been reporting and paying everything on time through Quickbooks. Long story short, I entered the wrong account ID in Quickbooks when I set it up, and Quickbooks has been reporting all my wage reports and payments to a different company's account with the State of Washington.
In trying to fix this with the state, they told me that since Quickbooks is the "Employer Agent" that submitted the reports and payments, they are the only one that can fix it in their system. I was also told by the state that Quickbooks should be matching the reports by Account ID (which I had entered incorrectly), EIN, and company name to ensure that they were reporting correctly. This obviously did not happen since they would have seen that both Company Name and EIN did not match up when they filed these reports.
I spent several hours on the phone with Quickbooks Support yesterday, who told me that the only thing they could do was file an "Amendment Request" to the payroll team. The Support person filed this request yesterday, and I just got a notification that the request was cancelled due to there not being "enough information to complete the request."
I'm not sure what my options are now. Can I file my own "Amendment Request" and include more information? How do I get Quickbooks to help amend these reports so that all my payments are not filed under a different company?
@truepani Say what you will, but the tried-and-true option when a company won't lift a finger to correct a situation they helped cause is to lawyer up.
It can't be much more expensive than QuickBooks itself is becoming.

Hi Jelayca,
Thank you for your response. I have already corrected the Account ID information in Quickbooks, so the issue is the past reports and payments that have been submitted under the wrong company. Payroll Support is who I have been on the phone with for many hours over the past few days. They did tell me that a letter from the State of Washington stating that Quickbooks is the only one who can make the change would "go a long way" to help my case. Unfortunately, the State told me that they do not issue these kind of letters.
Is Payroll Support still the best option? Do I have any other options aside from hiring a lawyer (as someone else in the comments suggests)?
I wish I could make your support experience better to address the payroll issues you're encountering effectively, truepani.
