Rejected Tax payment

I efiled my 941 tax deposit but it was set to be withdrawn on a holiday (I'm guessing) and it was rejected. I've just now noticed it when it wasn't on my bank statement. Is there a way I can re-file this through Quickbooks payroll?

@robins1962  Yes, but given that QB uses EFTPS, I doubt it'll be any easier than logging onto EFTPS yourself.

How did you originally pay the 941 tax? I'm guessing not EFTPS, given that it allowed you to try to set it for a holiday.

That being said, even if you did set it for a holiday, I doubt it would reject; it would just attempt to take it out on the next business day. Are you certain that the payment didn't just bounce?

Rejected Tax payment

Good evening, @robins1962

How are you doing today? I hope you've been great so far.

First, you'll want to see the reason for the rejection. To do this:

  1. Go to the Employees menu, then choose Payroll Center
  2. Click on the Pay Liabilities tab.
  3. Tap on the E-Payments tab from the Payment History section.
  4. Look for the rejected 941 payment and click the Agency Rejected link

Once you have reviewed the reason behind the rejection, you can void the rejected payment by clicking on the Void Rejected E-Payment button.

This will reopen the Liability in the Payroll Center.

To resubmit:

  1. Navigate back to the Pay Liabilities tab in the Payroll Center.
  2. Click on the Liability you just voided.
  3. Tap on E-Payment, then E-Pay.

That should do the trick. For more information about this process, check out Handle E-File and E-Pay rejections

Please don't hesitate to reply back if you have any additional questions or concerns. Have a good one!

LOL, yes I'm certain it didn't just bounce. This is what was in QB when I clicked "view".

Problem: The date is invalid or a holiday/weekend. Do not use.
Solution: The Withdraw On date is not to be more than 365 days in the future and not a holiday or weekend day.

Please resubmit your e-payment with a valid Withdraw On date. If you are up against a payment deadline, please contact the tax agency for assistance. For contact information, go to the Payroll Tax Support website (https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/payroll-compliance/payroll-tax-compli...).

This is the reason in QB which doesn't make sense to me. Seems like it would just withdraw on the next business day.

@robins1962  Oof.

I think I'd be asking if QB plans to cover any late payment penalties, considering the amount they charge us each year.

Here's hoping you're under the $2,500.00 quarterly tax total.

We have to make a deposit each week. So we are not under the 2500.00 monthly amount. I had no idea there was such a rejection reason as the date of withdrawal being on a holiday. Hopefully, I won't be penalized by the IRS.

@robins1962  "Hopefully, I won't be penalized by the IRS."

In my experience, the IRS usually allows you a Mulligan the first time something goes off the rails with 941 payments, so if this is the first offense, you'll probably be okay.

Darn silly of QB, though; it's not that hard to simply not allow you to pick an ineligible date; it's as easy as loading up the federal holidays and blocking off parts of the Calendar accordingly.

..."You used a bad word in the body of your post. Please clean up the body before posting."

Okay, QB, I cleaned my mouth out with soap, don't give me detention.

This is a NEW thing for QuickPayroll. In 30 years, the QkBooks system would bump to the next legal date for BOTH Feds and State. Now that we pay Hundred$ more for their service, they don't correct the dates within the program.  That SUCKS.  The Feds say it's because Intuit is holding our cash, and submitting it as EFTPS, too late.  Hey, INTUIT....   update the PROGRAM!!!!  Now we have 2 penalties in one year after a 35 year clean record.   I've told clients to stop subscribing.

This just happened to me for the June tax payment, unfortunately I only log in once a month to process the monthly payroll, and saw it very late.  Same rejection as OP.  The thing is, I forgot about June 19th being a holiday, and why wouldn't QB say something, like, choose another date for the withdrawal.  Now we are going to get hit with a big fine and penalty from the IRS.  I am so done with QB
