Sales tax reporting to wrong class

Using a template for an invoice and the template was created with one class.  We realized after the fact the class should have different and updated the template, but the sales tax is still reporting to the first class.  Do I need to reset up a new template, or is there a fix I haven't found?

Sales tax reporting to wrong class

I understand you're encountering issues with sales tax reporting in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), katryna. I'm here to fix this.

We can open the transactions and then assign them to the correct class. Here's how:

1. Go to the Customers at the top menu bar and select Customer Center.

2. Click the name of the customer and open the transactions.

3. Assign the transactions with the correct class.

4. Once done, click Save and Close.

You can check this article for more information to manage your form templates in the program: Use and Customize Form Templates

I've also added these links that have detailed information on how to resolve errors when customizing templates and on how to maximize the functionality of QuickBooks Desktop:

Sales tax reporting to wrong class

Thanks for your reply.  As I mentioned, the class had already been updated.  All but the sales tax is flowing correctly on the financials, but the sales tax is still showing up under the original class.  This is now causing my balance sheet by class to be out of balance.  Any other thoughts on how to fix?  Thanks again.

Thank you for the update, katryna. I'm here to further assist you on this.

Once you've updated the class assigned to an invoice, the changes will also reflect on all reports. I suggest refreshing the program by closing and reopening QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

If this doesn't work, there could be a potential integrity issue with the company data. In the meantime, I recommend running the verify tool to isolate the issue. Here's how:

  1. In your QBDT, go to Window and select Close All.
  2. Select Utilities from the File menu.
  3. Click on Verify Data

If you see Your data has lost integrity, data damage was found in the file. Let me show you how to rebuild the company data.

  1. Go to FileUtilities, and then select Rebuild Data.
  2. Select OK when QuickBooks asks to make a backup before it rebuilds the company file.
  3. Select where you want to save your backup, then OK. Don’t replace another backup file. Enter a new name in File name and select Save.
  4. Select OK when you get the message Rebuild has completed.
  5. Go to File, select Utilities then select Verify Data again to check for additional damage.

After this, you might also find the QuickBooks Tool Hub helpful in case you run into future errors in QBDT: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.
