Sales Tax

I am using Solopreneur and have been advised to use the invoice feature as sales receipt is not available.

I am based in Texas and collect sales tax (total 8.25%)

In the invoice, it states I need to correctly collect sales tax of 8.25% but in the actual invoice the amount is 0.00 and says see math of 0.00.

Can you please advise as I need sales tax added to the invoice.

I have confirmed that the service is clicked as taxable.

Sales Tax

Thanks for providing detailed information regarding your concern about your sales tax, Affinitistyle. Let's work together so you can set up your sales tax accordingly in QuickBooks Solopreneur (QBSP).

Once the Automatic Sales Tax is activated, QuickBooks will calculate your tax based on date, location, type of product or service, and customer.

Then, on the Invoice page, in the See the math section, the Automatic Calculation will be the default sales tax rate:

If your sales tax is not calculating accurately even though the Automatic Calculation is already selected, we can add a custom sales tax instead and use it moving forward. It allows you to enter the accurate sales tax rate.

Beforehand, please ensure that the product or service you've selected on the item line has a default amount. If none, kindly add its price to the Amount field so that the auto sales tax calculation will take effect and calculate the tax value. Please refer to the screenshot below as your visual reference.

When the invoice item has no amount:

When the invoice item has an amount:

Whenever your sales tax is still not calculated accurately after adding the product or service amount, click Edit on the Location and address from the See the math section. Then, double-check the details and update if necessary.

Nevertheless, if you've confirmed that every detail is precise, let's set up a Custom rate that you can use for your invoices so that you'll get your sales taxes calculated. Here's how:

  1. Log in to your QBSP account.
  2. Go to the Taxes menu and select Sales tax.
  3. Click the Sales Tax Settings and then Add rate.
  4. Tick Single if you're paying tax to one agency or Combined If you're tracking sales tax for more than one agency.
  5. Enter a name for your custom sales tax rate.
  6. Choose or type your sales tax agency in the Agency ▼ field. Then, add the tax Rate.
  7. Complete the form, and once everything is set, hit Save.

After this, you can continue generating your invoice. Then, on the See the math section, choose the custom rate you've created on the Sales tax rate dropdown.
