Yes, Jmacbass. You can print and e-file 1099 forms through QuickBooks Online without a payroll or contractor payment subscription. I'll provide detailed guidance in the steps below to assist you with the process.
Printing and e-filling 1099 forms in QuickBooks Online with a regular subscription is a smooth and straightforward procedure.
Here’s how to do it:
After preparing the 1099s, you will be prompted to choose a filing method. Select I’ll File Myself to print the forms yourself.
Once you've completed the preparation, you can select the type of 1099 form you want to print. After verifying everything is correct, proceed to print the selected 1099 forms. Ensure you have IRS-approved pre-printed forms as these are required for submission to the IRS.
If you decide to e-file your 1099 forms, note that this typically requires a subscription to QuickBooks Payroll services. Without this subscription, you will need to file manually by mailing the printed forms.

Another option. subscribe to Melio (Core plan is enough) to sync with QBO, manage and pay your bills (including 1099 contractors). You can e-file your 1099 forms later. You can also get $100 cashback.
Thanks, but are we allowed to paper file 1096? We have 15 W-2, through payroll provider, and about 10 1099’s.
Good morning, @Jmacbass0755.
Thanks for hopping back in on this thread and asking additional questions.
QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Contractor Payments don't provide Form 1096. If you are filing electronically, Form 1096 isn't required by the IRS. For more info Form 1096 and About Form 1096, Annual Summary and Transmittal of U.S. Information Returns.
Review this guide for more details as well: Print 1099 or 1096 forms.
Feel free to come back if you have any other questions. Have a great day!
