Can I manually enter daily sales by department/category fro my POS report

Hey there, @smclain.

Let me share with you the steps on how to can enter your daily sales and track them by department in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

If you're using a third-party to track your point of sales, you can use its report's data when entering your daily sales in QuickBooks. Then, use the sales receipts feature to record your total sales.

First, you'll have to create a customer for daily sales. You can use this customer name on your end of the day sales receipt.

  1. From the left menu, select Sales and click Customers.
  2. Select New customer.
  3. Enter "Daily Sales."
  4. Once done, click Save.

After this, set up an account and items for your daily sales. You can follow steps number 2 to 6 in this article to complete the process: How to record your total daily sales in QuickBooks Online using a single sales receipt

Once your daily sales account is set up, let's turn on the class tracking feature in QuickBooks to easily track your sales by department.

After your settings are in order, here’s how to set up your class list and organize your transactions by class. Then, create a sales receipt and track your sales transaction. Here's how:

  1. Click the +New icon and select Sales receipt.
  2. Choose the customer you've set up for daily sales, then enter the rest of the information. Use your POS data report as your reference when entering your details
  3. Select the class that you've created in the CLASS column.
  4. Once done, click Save and close. You can also select Save and new to record the rest of your transactions.

In addition, you can run the Sales by Class Detail report to view your sales grouped by class. Just go to Reports and open the Sales by Class Detail report. Then, filter this report so you can focus on the details that matter to most you.
