Cant convert the windows qb file into mac file

Are you able opening both files on QBD 2013? Do you need to convert to QBD 2021 for Mac or else?

Cant convert the windows qb file into mac file

I've got the steps to resolve the unexpected result when converting the file, Memo79.

Usually, the Only the QuickBooks Administrator or an External Accountant can perform this action message will appear if there's a restriction for payroll permission for sensitive reporting.

You can check the permission and remove sensitive reporting. Let me show you how it's done.

  1. Sign in as the QuickBooks Admin.
  2. Go to the Company menu, then select Setup Users and Passwords and then Set Up Users.
  3. Highlight the user, then select Edit User.
  4. Follow the Change User Password and Access wizard to remove sensitive reporting access.

Once done, you can try again converting a QuickBooks for Windows file to QuickBooks for Mac.

I'm adding these articles for related topics about an external accountant and access roles on your company file:

Let me know if there's anything else you need by commenting below. I'll be around until you're able to successfully convert those files.

Cant convert the windows qb file into mac file

Thank you Mary Land Tea..  sorry for replying so late but I just had time to be in front of the computer.    I can't still convert them to Mac files..  to begin with I notice to enter this particular company it only lets me enter as a non-admin user.. I tried to log in as administrator user but only the other company I had no trouble with converting the qb to Mac files lets me log in as administrator..  this company I have trouble with lets me in with a non-administrator user and when I try..Company- Set up users and passwords, set up users, edit users.. a box pop ups saying. :You don't have permission to set up users.  Only the QB Administrator can do it.  You must reopen the company file and log in as "Admin" to set up users..

Is there anything I can do??  It's almost end of the year..  can I use that as an advantage to start from scratch beginning January 1st and just finish this year with this old qb version for this company i'm having trouble?

Thanks for your time..  yes I can open both companies in the old qb version..  just the one I'm having trouble with won't let me open it with the admin user..  that is keeping me from converting the file to Mac..  and yes..  I hate my old computer and would like both companies running in the new computer with the new qb version..

Is there anything else I can do?

Cant convert the windows qb file into mac file

I can share some additional steps to fix this, Memo79.

If you start from the beginning on January 1st and work your way up to the present, you may end up with a lot of works. Also, you're able to convert your other files even though they're both QuickBooks Desktop 2013 editions, which is unique. The older business files may have been corrupted, allowing you to log in as a non-admin user. Let's run the verify and rebuilt tools to ensure that it is free from any possible data issues.

These are the steps to verify data:

  1. Open the old company file to QuickBooks Desktop 2013 installed on your old computer.
  2. Go to File menu, then Utilities.
  3. Choose Verify Data. If QuickBooks detected no problem, you can proceed to rebuild data. If a specific error message appears. You can use this link to look for specific instructions. QuickBooks Desktop support site.

Here's how to rebuild data:

  1. Go to File menu, then Utilities.
  2. Select Rebuild Data.
  3. You will receive a warning message to backup your company file, press OK to start the backup process. This ensures you've secured a copy of your files before any changes are made to them.
  4. The Rebuild Data utility starts as soon as the backup is finished.
  5. Once you receive the message "Rebuild has completed" hit OK.

Close the company file and reopen it once more. You can now convert the QuickBooks for Windows file to QuickBooks for Mac if all goes well. This article provides you with detailed steps on the process: Convert a QuickBooks for Windows file to QuickBooks for Mac.

For future reference, you can check out this resource to learn how to reconcile your accounts: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop. The procedure to confirm that your bank and credit card statement matches your QuickBooks balance can be found here.

Cant convert the windows qb file into mac file

Hello, Memo79.

I appreciate you for following the steps provided above to verify if there's a damaged data on your company file when accessing or open the company file stored in your QuickBooks for Mac.

To resolve this, let's repair it by following the steps below:

  1. Go to Applications.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Tap the Disk Utility option.
  4. Select your Mac’s hard drive and click the Repair Disk Permissions button.

For more details about this one, check out this article: https://qblittlesquare.com/2010/11/troubleshooting-basics-with-quickbooks-for-mac/. Then, proceed to Tip #3 section if the same thing happens.

If the problem persists,  there may be a damaged component on the software. We can uninstall QuickBooks for Mac and repair it to resolve any data issues in the software.

Before performing any troubleshooting steps, it would be best to back up your company file. This way you’ll be able to restore your company file and get back to work if you ever run into a problem with your data.

However, If none of this suggestion work, I recommend contacting our Technical Support Team. One of our specialists will look into your company file and review the account.

Let me know the results, Memo79. Just add a comment below or mention my name. I'd like to make sure this is taken care of. Stay safe!

What solution that offers to my problem??  Do you mean I need to Uninstall my old Microsoft 2013 Qb version and reinstall it??  How do i uninstall it and how do I reinstall it?  Is it a safe way?  Will I be able to reinstall my old 2013 Microsoft qb version for contractors in order to reopen my company file and convert it to a Mac file in a safe way?  I don't want to loose any information or be unable to open the company file that I have already backed up..  is there a tutorial or info I can browse before I do this?

Thanks for coming back to the Community, Memo79.

I can see how important it is for you to be able to convert your QuickBooks Desktop Contractor 2013 (QBDT) company file to QuickBooks for Mac. I’m here to help make sure you can open your desktop file and convert it to the latter version.

We’ll have to reset the password to resolve the issue. Performing this process will let you log in to QuickBooks Desktop.

  1. Open the desktop program.
  2. In the QuickBooks Desktop Login window, click the link for I forgot my password.
  3. This will open the Reset QuickBooks Desktop Administrator Password.
  4. Make sure to fill in the field boxes.
  5. The license number for QuickBooks Desktop. (Hold down F2 on your keyboard from the login window to see your license number).
  6. Enter the name, email address, phone number, and ZIP code you used when you purchased the product.
  7. You can find all this information when you sign in to your Customer Account Management Portal (CAMPS). If you have trouble with the sign-in, you can reset your CAMPS password.recover pwdt.png
  8. Press OK.

If the information is correct, you’ll receive a code to the primary email in your CAMPS. QuickBooks will then guide you through creating a new admin password.

For more information, check the following links. These resources contain screenshots and a video for visual reference.

Cant convert the windows qb file into mac file

Ok..  I was able to get the file converted from windows to Mac and was about to open a new company file since this would be the second company under the same software  but then a window pop up asking to set up a password and giving me as Username: Administrator ..  I would assume is the same password I set up for the first company right?  But I can't even remember that password, how do I get it?  Is this the right way to set up a new company when I already have one running for the past year?  Or is this software asking me to set up a new different password for this new company? Thanks for your time

I'm delighted to hear that your file has been successfully converted to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac, @Memo79.

You can try to log in to your company file using the password from your QBDT for windows account. QuickBooks for Mac supports administrator passwords after converting from Windows to Mac.

Here's how to reset the administrator or a non-admin password, refer to this article: Reset your password for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Let me show you how to create a new company file in QBDT for Mac:

  1. Open QuickBooks. You’ll see the No Company Open window.
  2. Click on Get Started.
  3. On the next window that appears, select Start Setup.
  4. Log in to your Intuit account if you have one. If you do not have one set up yet, click the Create an account button and enter your information to make one.
  5. Follow the prompts to finish creating your account.

You can refer to this article for more information about some features and data that won’t be converted from Windows to Mac: Convert a QuickBooks for Windows file to QuickBooks for Mac.

I'm always here if you need further help with your passwords or company file. Let me know in the Reply section below. Have a great rest of the day!

I exited qb and reopened it..  there is no "No Company Open Window "..  it takes me to a menu bar and if I click on File there are options for: new company, open company  and open recent..  and my bed guess is new company but after that comes the issue of setting up a new password like I earlier explained do I need a new password? Why is it asking me for a new password?..  how should I proceed?

Thank you for following up on this, Memo79.

Let us make sure you'll be able to open your company file in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Once you have the MAC.qbb file for your QuickBooks Mac, all we need to do is restore it. Now, in this process you don't need to create a new password because you can use the same credentials that you've used in the Windows version.

To restore the file:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.
  2. Go to File menu, then select Open Company.
  3. Locate the MAC.qbb file, then click on Open.
  4. Select OK when asked if you want to restore a QuickBooks for Windows file.
  5. Enter a name for the restored file, and then click on Save.

I've added this article for more information about data conversion: Convert a QuickBooks for Windows file to QuickBooks for Mac.

You can also check out this link just in case you need to import data into QuickBooks for Mac.

Just let me know if you still need further assistance. I'll be here to help. Have a wonderful day!
