merge 2016 quick books for Mac with 2019 quickbooks

Hello there, @art123.

Thanks for taking the time to reach out to us. Let's upgrade your company file to merge/convert your data from QuickBooks Mac 2016 to 2019.

You can follow the steps below to upgrade your QuickBooks for Mac company file to a newer version:

  1. Launch your new version of QuickBooks Mac Desktop.
  2. Select File and choose Open Company.
  3. Browse to your data file, select your company file and click Open.
  4. Read the info on the upgrade dialog. Choose Upgrade to open.
  5. Log into the company file as the Admin user.
  6. Select OK on the following dialog stating the file has been upgraded.
  7. Once the file is upgraded, you'll need to:
  • Store the backup you created in a safe location until you are certain you won't need it again.
  • If you copied the data file from another computer to upgrade it, copy it back again.
  • If you cannot find your data file in its original location and if it is not in the specified folder, search your hard drive for *.qb*, which will find all QuickBooks Company files.

You can check out this article for your reference: Upgrade to a New QuickBooks Desktop Version.

Don't hesitate to leave a comment below if you have other questions in upgrading QB for Mac company file. Have a good day ahead.

merge 2016 quick books for Mac with 2019 quickbooks

Sir,

When I launch QB for Mac 2019 and select FILE / OPEN COMPANY I can see the backed up data file of QB for Mac 2016,  visible but dimmed and cannot be opened.

I tried to back it up in a different folder but the result is the same.

Why is it not undimmed in the backup folder when trying to open it with QB for Mac 2019 ?

Opening the back up file done with QB for Mac 2016 in QB for Mac 2016 no problem.

My email: [email address removed].

Thanks for your help,

A.Trapenberg

The process for opening a backup file is identical in both year versions. Your better option is to locate and open your working file.

Hallo SkinnyRaven,

Thanks for your reply,

When I launch QB for Mac 2019 and go to FILE / OPEN COMPANY and go tho the folder with the back up of the company file done in QB for Mac 2016, I can see the backup but it is dimmed and I am not able to open it in QB for Mac 2019. It is not accessible for QB for Mac 2019.

(seen file above)

I can not click on it, to open it.

What do you mean with "locate and open the working file"?

It has to be opened with  QB for Mac 2019, but how??

Thanks for your support,

Browse the folder where you store your company file, not your backup files. If you don't recall do a search from a finder window or spotlight for .qb2016, this will be your working file.

I am trying to upgrade from MAC desktop 2016 to 2019.  When I push the update button it says there was a problem converting this file.  Not sure what is the problem

Thanks for joining us here in the Community, @Memorybuyer.

I'd be happy to walk you through in upgrading your QuickBooks for Mac to the latest version seamlessly.

Let's start with creating a backup copy of your company file so you can easily restore it in case of data loss. Once done, we can now start downloading the latest version of QuickBooks through the Download Center

After that, you can now start installing your QuickBooks 2019 then update your company file to work in the newer version.

To do that:

  1. Open your company file in the newer version.
  2. When QuickBooks prompts you to update or convert the company file, select Upgrade.
  3. If you receive a prompt message, select OK.
  4. Check your balances, reports, and accounts to ensure the correct company file is converted.

If you need further assistance with this process, you may reach out to our Customer Care Team. They have tools that can help you through the steps.

This should help you upgrade your QuickBooks into the newest version.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me here should you have any further questions, I want to make sure you're taken care of. Have a pleasant day ahead!
