What is my current QBO version number?

What is my current Quickbooks Online version number; where can I find it?

I'm not asking about the Product Version, ('QuickBooks Plus') which is listed under Billing & Subscription (see screenshot). I'm asking about the version number of the released version which my company is currently using. The user interface does not seem to show this to the user.

Apparently, Intuit rolls out updates to accounts in groups, so if you have more than one company file as an example, you can have one company with one set of features, and the other without those or with additional features.

As a result, the online documentation is frequently wrong, irrelevant and outdated, as I experienced when trying to set up Quickbooks Online Plus for Nonprofit use. A CSR answered this: "To clear out your confusion, we recently rolled out an update in QuickBooks Online." This removed the option to set up a new company as Non-Profit, but the documentation states otherwise.

The updates and versioning of Quickbooks online are very confusing. Where are the QBO version numbers, so that I can tell Intuit Customer Service which version of QBO my 'company' is actually using? Where are the *Release Notes*, which explain the changes? (Intuit shows these in their Desktop products and updates).

What is my current QBO version number?

Good day liawagner,

Thanks for reaching out to Community!

You can check the version of QuickBooks Online when you log in to the account, and before you select the company. The cluster number and version number appears in the browser address box. I've also attached a screenshot for your reference.

You can also find release notes for QBO updates at our QBO Blog. Here's the link:

You can always visit the Community site if you have other concerns, or if there’s anything else you need. We’ll do our best to answer your questions and help you resolve any issues you’re having with the product.

What is my current QBO version number?

Ok, thanks,

Nevertheless something changed between December 2016 and February 2017 in regards to setting up Nonprofit features in QBO as mentioned by your customer service representative. This change is still not documented anywhere, and it still does not work in regards to Nonprofit standard reports (while it did work in December).

What is my current QBO version number?

@ chris

QBO release numbers are rarely used by anyone, even support reps, and the QBO blog does not cover all changes they make to the software either

All you can do is call intuit, or describe the change in one company file that is a problem here, there could be a reason that is not an update by intuit that someone knows about .

When you subscribe to cloud software you are hostage to changes the host makes, since they rarely make them an option in settings.

What is my current QBO version number?

The need for release numbers depends very much on the complexity and reliability of the hosted SaaS software. I have self-hosted software like Sugar CRM and Gitlab, where version numbers of software are quite helpful and where bug-trackers are generally more accessible to users.

In QBO I will be using the version number to keep track of the version where I encountered bugs and issues and will be able to check again, when the version number changes.

I never felt the need to find the released version number of Gmail (for example), as it is vastly more reliable and less complex than QBO. I have found Quickbooks Online surprisingly buggy and badly documented, especially in regards to (admittedly less popular) features such as the use of multi-currency and setting up a non-profit organization.

Additionally even basic features which have been stable for 20 years in Quicken or Quickbooks Desktop, still contain serious flaws in QBO: Typing transactions in the Register, I encountered various bugs, which should not exist in a mature SaaS offering. QBO has been around for a number of years and I was expecting a consistent, mature, reliable well documented product.

While evaluating an international version of Quickbooks, I also encountered that it was a very different version from the US version, due to it being an older release and due to some feature differences in regards to taxation. Here version numbers can be helpful, too, if they are shown.

Alas the way QBO displays the online version in the address bar, before actually loading the company file, does not give me confidence, that I'm getting the complete version information. When loading a non-USA company, there is not even any indication, what country it was initially signed up for.

What is my current QBO version number?

Am looking for our version number in July 2023. There definately is no cluster or version number in the browser address box after I log in, but before I select a company.  We are required to provide the version number of the software we're using for ISO certification.
