Pro Advisor Account-related issues with migrating my own company file to QBO

Hi there --

I run payroll ONLY for myself, ONLY once a month. I do not run payroll for clients. This year the cost of payroll in QB Desktop has gone up to something like $700 (I figure, since I got an email advising me my subscription that will renew on May 2 -- in 4 days!! -- will cost $1499). I would like to utilize the free QBO, which includes payroll, for my own company file but have these account-related  issues with how to migrate my QB desktop file into QBO:

PROBLEMS WITH MIGRATING INTO PRO-ADVISOR PROFILE 1
I can't migrate into my main Intuit profile, because some old data from like 10 years ago is in there already
. When QBO was a fairly new option, I wanted to check it out & fooled around with putting some of my personal accounts in the online version. Now there is no way to migrate my own current business QB Desktop company file into QBO. A telephone support agent confirmed this would not be possible. She suggested I just start a new Pro Advisor account with a different email address, so that's what I did.

PROBLEMS WITH MIGRATING INTO PROFILE 2

So now i'm trying to figure out how to migrate my own business company file from Desktop Accountant to my newly created Pro Advisor account.

Profile 2 Problem 1 -- When I read the how to initiate migration from the Desktop app, it says I must sign into Intuit with the same credentials I use to sign into my desktop file with. But that would be the Profile 1 account into which I cannot migrate data due to the old data that is already in there from a decade ago.

Profile 2 Problem 2 -- I found a video about migrating a company file into QBO when starting from the QBO side of things. But in my newly created Pro Advisor profile, there is no button I can find to start a migration. There is a section in the menu for "YOUR BOOKS" but there is no button to migrate QB Desktop in.

If anyone can help me find the solution to the account related problems that are preventing me from migrating my QB Desktop books into my old or new Pro Advisor profiles so I can have free payroll for myself, and save me $700, I would really appreciate it!!

Pro Advisor Account-related issues with migrating my own company file to QBO

I'm here to assist you in migrating your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) company file to QuickBooks Online (QBO), @Snafix.

Firstly, I appreciate your efforts in troubleshooting the issue and reaching out to our support team for assistance.

To provide an accurate solution, could you please let me know which version of QuickBooks (QB) you're using?

To address your Profile 2 Problem 1, I recommend following the advice of the support agent and creating a new ProAdvisor account with a different email address. This will prevent QB from overwriting your data.

Regarding your Profile 2 Problem 2, you can use an online tool to move your books from QBDT to QBO since you can't access the migration button. Let me guide you how.

  1. Choose the link for your QB version:
  2. Select Get Started and log in with your Intuit Account.
  3. Click Select File and look for the supported QBDT file you want to move. It's important to note that you can only upload one file at a time.
  4. Select the Open button or drag and drop the file to upload it.
  5. Once your file is uploaded, we'll automatically update it to the recent version of QBDT. Then, you'll see an option to move to QBO.
  6. Follow the on-screen steps to move your data to QBO.

If you still encounter any issues while migrating from QBDT to QBO, you can contact our support team for assistance. They have the right tools and resources to take a closer look at your account and provide a solution.

For more detailed information regarding the online tool migration process, you can visit this article: Move your books to QuickBooks Online with an online tool.

Additionally, I'm sharing this article that explains how features and data move from QBDT to QBO: Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Moreover, I suggest checking out this link and watching videos to learn your way around QBO: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/quickbooks-online/help-tutorial/get-started/.

Please let us know if you have further concerns about the migration process. We're always here to assist you in any way we can. Stay safe!
