Buy now & saveWhat changed in the Chart of Accounts? I used to be able to have it in detail type and number order; now, it's in detail type and name order.
I want it in detail type and number order. How do I get it back?
There aren't specific changes on the Chart of Accounts, denisek. I'll guide you in modifying your preference to show the detail type and number order in your company file.
To start, please ensure that the Account Number feature is activated in your account settings. Here's how:
If the Number column isn't visible from the Chart of Accounts (COA) page, follow these steps:
I'm including this screenshot for reference.
However, if you meant something else, you can leave a reply on this thread for more detailed information.
Additionally, you can start reviewing and reconciling your accounts to ensure they always match your bank and credit card statements.

I meant we had our Chart of Accounts in account type order, and then it would sort in account number order; now it is still in account type order, but now it's in alpha order instead of account number order. It was fine yesterday; when I logged on today, it was showing as below (alpha order). see below
Thank you for sending over the screenshot, @denisek. I'm here to help you efficiently address and reinstate your preferred settings in your Chart of Accounts.
From the photos you shared, I can see that you chose the Account Type. Please select the Number field to achieve the desired sorting. I will provide a screenshot below.
Furthermore, you can add more accounts anytime you need to track types of transactions. Here's how to add more accounts to your chart of accounts.

You can only select one or the other (account type or number). Like I said something changed overnight because you used to be able to sort by account type and then it would put it in number order within the account type. We use sub accounts (see below) and that is kinda working but it is sorting in alpha order not number order.
When you sort the Chart of Accounts by account type, the account numbers should automatically follow, denisek. Let me add additional information to help you.
Since the order is off on your end, let's check if your browser might be causing the issue. I encourage you to perform some basic troubleshooting steps. Often, outdated cached files can lead to such errors. First, please open your QBO company in a private or incognito tab and open your Chart of Accounts from there.
Here are the keyboard shortcuts:
If it works, return to your regular browser and clear its cache to remove any unnecessary data and start afresh. You can consider a different supported browser to optimize your QuickBooks experience.
If the issue persists, I encourage reaching out to our Live Support team. They have the necessary tools to investigate the underlying cause of the problem and perform a screen-sharing session for efficient QuickBooks navigation.
Additionally, I added this article to guide you in ensuring that your QuickBooks account match to your bank balance: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

It's not the browser, as I tried what you suggested, and it's still doing it. I am call support now
I just got off the phone with live support, and they are aware it is an issue, and I am not the only one experiencing it.
Hopefully it will be resolved soon
I am having the exact same issues in two of my company accounts. Spoke to a customer support team member for over 2-hours and they were very confused and unable to help. VERY FRUSTRATING!
I'm really starting to lose my patience with QBO and the error/glitchy prone updates.
Does anyone know if Sage Intacct is any better? I think it's time that I start to research alternative options. Sadly we have over 20 company accounts with QBO. Making a software change seems like it will be a nightmare too.
Not helpful.
I'm still having the same problem.
Intuit fixed it,
Thank you all for your help
Thanks for getting back with the Community, denisek.
I'm happy to hear my colleagues were able to help with troubleshooting your Chart of Accounts.
I've also included a detailed resource about working with the Chart of Accounts which may come in handy moving forward: Learn about the chart of accounts
