Your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account's security is our top priority, @mimiohannon. That's why I'm here to make sure you're able to manage your access and account verification when logging into it accordingly.

Two-step verification is an extra layer of security when accessing your QBO account. It's a setting where you need to verify, using a code sent to your mobile phone or email that you're the one accessing your account every time. To turn this off using the same phone number, here's how:

  1. Sign in to your Intuit account.
  2. From the left menu, select Sign In & Security.
  3. In the Two-step verification section, select Turn off.
  4. Enter the code, then select Continue.

In case you're using a different phone number, you'll first need to update it so you can log in to the account. Once done, you can turn off two-step verification. You can learn more about this through this article: Verify your QuickBooks Online account with multi-factor authentication or two-step verification.

Also, to further guide you in managing your QBO account, I'd recommend checking out this article: Account Management. It includes topics about updating billing info, managing your password, and subscription, to name a few.

Keep me posted if you have other concerns about two-step verification and managing user access in QBO. I'm always ready to help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @mimiohannon.

I have QB desktop. Are you aware that there is no disable function? How do I disable the two step verification?

Thank you.

Good evening, @jesus1989

Thanks for joining in on this thread. I can share some insight to get the two step verification turned off.

The steps my colleague provided do work for your QuickBooks Desktop account as well. All you need to do is login through your Intuit Account and use the instructions above to get you taken care of.

Let me know if these steps work for you or if you need some additional assistance. I'm always here to have you back. Have a great day!

Hi Candice. I don't see anything that resembles an answer on my accounts.intuit.com account.

Hi there, jesus1989.

The accounts.intuit.com is the login page to manage your Intuit account for both QuickBooks Online and Desktop. And, the method used for two-step verification is through text message or voice call.

You can follow the steps provided by Rea_M on how to turn off 2-step verification when you log into your Intuit account. I'm adding this screenshot as a visual guide.

If you're referring to the password when accessing your QuickBooks company file, you can remove the password from the user settings.

Let me walk you through how.

  1. Go to the Company menu at the top. Then, choose Set up Users and Passwords.
  2.  Enter the existing password in the Change QuickBooks Password window. Then, leave the New Password and Confirm Password fields blank.
  3. Scroll through to the challenge question and choose the Select option, and leave the answer blank.
  4. Click OK.

With the above steps, you won't have to enter a password the next time you log in to QuickBooks. Want more details? Check out this article: Reset your password for QuickBooks Desktop.

Keep me posted if you still have questions or concerns about turning off 2-step verification. I'll be around for you. Take care always.

Hi Mary thank you for replying - 1. This is why "this" is frustrating - there is NO TURN OFF (as discussed in most of these threads). I'm trying to include a pdf. 2. I have QB DESKTOP 3. Starting from the top of the window - Two-step verification, then a phone number followed by "Change". Then more dialogue, then at the bottom is Turn on or Cancel. Hit Cancel, and it brings you out of the window. 4. So, how do I turn this off? There is only 1 phone number for ALL of QuickBooks, so when a person needs to be "verified" (crazy) I AM THE one who gets a text message. 5. An answer please?

I have read through these threads and TRIED everything written.  My two step verification Was OFF... and I still was required to enter the code EVERY time!  I even tried to turn it on and then back off... and NOTHING WORKS.. I am trying to run a business and do NOT have the time to enter the codes to 4 different computers.. Somebody please help.  I don't have the time to sit on the phone and discuss this back and forth.

I agree, this is extremely frustrating!  I am helping on reporting and don't want to give QB my phone number but once I login I get prompted with a pop up that demands my phone number and won't let me get around it.  There must be a workaround, they already have my email

It's definitely turned on, but when I log into the  account manager, I only have the option to turn it on, not off

Thanks for chiming in on this thread, @Felip Yu.

Yes, there's an option to turn off the 2-step verification. You can refer to the steps provided by my peer, Rea_M, above if you use the same phone number.

If you're now using a different number, you'll have to update your contact information to sign in to your account. Here's an article for more information about the process: Verify your QuickBooks Online account with multi-factor authentication or two-step verification.

However, if the issue persists, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Team to report this issue. They have the tool to securely look into your account and can do further investigation on why you're unable to turn off the 2-factor authentication.

Click the Reply button if you have follow-up questions or any QuickBooks concerns. I'll be more than happy to work with you again. Have a good one!

This reply is related only to QB's own verification. That's not the issue.

It's like they deliberately dodge the issue. Two-step verification is making QB a nightmare to use. Can everyone at QB just stop pretending that turning off QB's *own* 2-step is the answer? It's the LINKED ACCONTS, obviously?!?! Having to do the 2-step for every different linked bank account every time is a nightmare

Right? "2 step level authorization" for *security* reasons... I can have my IT investigate who logged on IF there was a security issue... I will BET that internally at Intuit they don't have to use the same goofy verification system .Thank you for the reply. At least now I know they are others that have the same high frustration level...

I guess this is their way to ensure they can sell per user.  It does ask for SMS verification even if you have 2FA turned off!
