How can I keep Quickbooks Online active for a longer period of time before it automatically logs me out due to inactivity?

My bookkeeping activities sometimes involves digging through paper files, not just online actions. I want to turn back to my PC and not have to log back into Quickbooks Online because I was away for too long.

A warm welcome to the Community, TheProuddad.

QuickBooks Online offers a user-friendly feature that allows you to set your time-out duration. You can change its default setting through the Account and Settings page.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon ⚙️ at the upper right corner and select Account and Settings.
  2. From the left panel, select Advanced.
  3. Go to the Other preferences section and click Edit ✎.
  4. Choose 1, 2, or 3 hours from the Sign me out if inactive ▼ drop-down menu, then click Save.
  5. Hit Done.

To know more about this feature, check out this article: Change the timeout duration in QuickBooks Online. On the same link, you'll find tips on what are the things to remember when using this feature.

Additionally, I recommend visiting this link: Account Management. This will provide links about managing your QuickBooks Online account, users, password, and billing.

If there's anything else I can help you with, please let me know. I'd be more than willing to lend you a hand. Have a good one.

How can I keep Quickbooks Online active for a longer period of time before it automatically logs me out due to inactivity?

Is 3 hours the longest length to stay logged in for the online time clock?

Thanks for following along with the thread, @DebbieB23.

You're correct. Three hours is the longest you can currently stay logged in to QuickBooks Online. Some important things to remember:

  • QuickBooks Online measures your time of inactivity from the last time you moved your mouse, clicked, or used your keyboard on any transaction form.
  • If you are timed out, sign back into your company to continue where you left off.
  • The timeout setting can only be changed by the Master Administrator, and it applies to all company users.

As my colleague has mentioned above, you can see more details about time duration in Change the timeout duration in QuickBooks Online

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I'm always happy to lend a hand. Take care!

How can I keep Quickbooks Online active for a longer period of time before it automatically logs me out due to inactivity?

Your response is not totally accurate.  I only work on my computer.  I am never away from it for more than 15 minutes when I am clocked in working, so my mouse, keyboard, etc. are active the whole time I am clocked in, yet I still have to log in again to clock out when I am finished no matter how long I work.

Most of my computer stuff is done in the same browser that has the QB timecard on it and I am not in any other QB applications.

When I work only an hour or so it is logged in but if I work any longer than that is has timed out.

Any suggestions?
