How do I assign a class to a batch of products?

Welcome to the Community, @bergracing1.

I’m here to provide some insight in assigning a class to products by batch in QuickBooks Online.

The Batch actions feature does not include assigning a class to Products and Services. You'll have to edit the items and add them one at a time. Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Products and Services.
  2. Look for the item and click Edit on the Action column.
  3. Assign a class by clicking the Class drop-down.
  4. Hit Save and close.

You can also manually assign a class to a specific product/service when creating an invoice. Let me show you how:

  1. Create an invoice
  2. Assign a class for your product/service under the Class column.
  3. Hit Save and close.

Here are some helpful articles that you can check on to know more about Products and Services:

That should get you pointed in the right direction. Please know I’m only a couple of clicks away if you need anything else. Have a great day ahead!

I don't see a Class drop-down. I guess just some users have this

How do I assign a class to a batch of products?

What I would like to do is assign a class to a group of products. Almost 40. doing them one at a time would be frustrating...

How do I assign a class to a batch of products?

Hello there, @bergracing1,

I appreciate you taking the steps provided by my colleague so you can assign a class to your products and services.

Right now, we're unable to assign a class to products and services in batch. You need to manually add the class to each product.

That's it for now, @bergracing1. Don't hesitate to post again if you have any other concerns about QuickBooks. The Intuit Community is always open to help.

Is there an enhancement in progress to add this functionality? We just linked our CRM to QBO and syncing a significant number of products/services that need a class assigned to them. Please advise. Thanks!

This is a great idea for a new software feature, @alt_keith.

As of this time, the ability to assign class by batch to your list of products and services is not available. You can follow the suggestions shared by my colleague, @MaryLandT.

I can see how it would be beneficial to you to have the ability to upload your signature electronically. I'll make sure to pass along your request to the Product Development Team to let them know you'd like to see your signature printed together with the checks you've created in the system.

I appreciate your patience but feel free to leave your comments below if you have other questions. In the meantime, stay tuned to our Community page for new product updates and releases!

Thanks for reaching out to us, orangzeb.

I'm here to help you sort this out. This can happen when the Accounting method you use when pulling up the report is a Cash basis. However, if you change it to the Accrual method, you'll see each column of the assigned class in your report.

Please see attached screenshots that serve as your visual reference:

I've also included some links for additional information about assigning classes and customizing your reports in QBO:

Feel free to post again here if you have any other questions.

How do I assign a class to a batch of products?

Hello,

I run a shopify store and my sales and inventory are sync'd through an app call Bridge.

I want to add classes to all products and services and I see how I can do that. I've tested the class feature by adding it to one particular product.  But when I pull reports, (in accrual basis as well as in cash basis), I do not see any class category.  Everything is unspecified.

When I check the underlying transaction entries for that product, the class is not updated.  Any idea how I can ensure the class gets updated for all historical transactions?

Thanks for providing us in-depth details of your concern. Let me share some information about class tracking in QuickBooks Online (QBO), maytham - fititout.

The only way for the class to be updated for all historical transactions is to manually assign a class per transaction. This way, they'll be reflected in your reports.  Here's how to tag a class to a transaction:

  1. Click the + New Plus button.
  2. Select the type of transaction you want to record.
  3. Add the details of the transaction.
  4. To assign one to each item (or row), add the class in the Class column (if you set one to each row in the transaction). Then, to assign one to an entire invoice or receipt, choose the class ▼ drop-down at the top (if you set One to the entire transaction).
  5. Save your transaction.

For more details about this one, see the Track your transactions by class article. Then, try running reports by class again. Feel free to visit our Report page for more insight about creating and managing reports on your account.

Keep me posted if you need a hand with customizing your reports or any QBO related. I'll be here to ensure your success. You have a good one.

This is so painful to add class to 1000 transactions one at a time. Should be a simple fix from qbo to be able to do this as a batch.

How do I assign a class to a batch of products?

Hello there, @leena3.

I know how time-consuming it is to add classes to multiple transactions one at a time. Let me share two options add class to multiple transactions in QuickBooks Online.

First, if you have an accountant that uses QuickBooks Online Accountant (QBOA), you can invite them to access your company file. They have the Reclassify transactions tool to batch edit transactions. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QBO account.
  2. Click the Gear icon, then select Manage users.
  3. Go to the Accountants tab and click Invite.
  4. Enter the accountant's contact info, then select Save.

Once done, reach out to your accountant and let them accept the invitation. You can check out this article for more guidance: Add accountant users in QuickBooks Online.

Secondly, if you have the QBO Advanced version, you can add a class to multiple transactions using the Reclassify transactions feature. To do so, you can click the Gear icon and select Reclassify transactions.

I'm adding this article for more guidance: Reclassify or move multiple transactions in QuickBooks Online Accountant and Advanced.

However, if you're not using the QBO Advanced version, you can consider upgrading your QBO account

Just in case you want to run reports by class, you can check out this article for the detailed steps and information: Run reports by class in QuickBooks Online.

Come back to this post if you have other concerns or follow-up questions about this. I'm always here to help.

This doesn't appear to work for products, which is the incredibly frustrating thing that everyone is talking about here.
