how to activate payroll subscription bought bundled with QB Desktop Pro 2020 ... replace existing subscription

I bought a download version of QB Desktop Pro with a one year subscription to Payroll Enhanced from Costco. I was able to call a payroll support # [removed]) a few days ago, the rep cancelled my current subscription effective renewal date so as not to charge my credit card on file.  She told me I would need to call back to activate the new subscription.  The rep was efficient, the call probably no more than 10 minutes .... I have done it this way other times but always had a disc from a box.

I have a 15 digit key and 2 different product numbers. I assume the 15 digit key is for the new version of QBs and NOT for the payroll...

So now 3 days later the same call (to activate the new subscription)  results in a recording: "this number will no longer connect you with an expert"  and then directs me to the help file in QBs ... certainly can not find the links mentioned in the recording for contact sources.  Seems when I do finally stumble on any kind of "contact us' link I end up in an endless circle that never gets me any where....

So question is: how can I easily activate the new payroll subscription before my existing one expires April 24?   I have bought subscription many other times from 3rd party vendor as it usually save a few hundred dollars over auto renewal but it has always been on disc, as mentioned above.... every time I have done it it seems to be a different routine.   Very frustrating for me  that Intuit changes their game so often.

I have installed the downloaded version of QBs 2020 Desktop Pro and used the update function twice now  ... updated from 2019 version ... everything there seems to be working fine , data good.

Hoping someone can help me out. thank you in advance. Gerry

I can help you activate your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) payroll service that you've purchased, @Gerry.

Here's how you can activate your payroll service:

  1. Select Employees, then Payroll, choose Install Payroll from Box.
  2. Complete the fields in the Payroll License and Product Information page. Your QuickBooks Desktop Payroll license number is displayed on a brightly colored sticker on the folder inside your box. The product number is included in the directions on the folder. These numbers work together to identify and verify your Payroll subscription. They also produce a valid service key, which you'll use to unlock your payroll subscription.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. Complete the fields in the Payroll Company Legal Information section.

If you don't see Install Payroll from Box, your QBDT may already have a payroll subscription. I recommend reaching out to our Payroll Support Team so they can activate your new payroll subscription.

Also, our phone support line is limited due to the ongoing pandemic. This can be the reason why you're unable to reach out to our phone support during the time of your payroll service activation.

To make sure that we address your concerns on time, you can check out our availability hours.

how to activate payroll subscription bought bundled with QB Desktop Pro 2020 ... replace existing subscription

Same here. This is the 3rd time I"m buying a new QBPro w/Payroll from Costco. The  last 2 times I did this I wrote down specific instructions on how to proceed with the payroll upgrade. I wrote down NOT to install the new payroll software.  Just install QBPro. Then call in to de-activate the existing payroll subscription and have them give me a new activitation key which I will enter in my system to replace the old one. That's it.,  I tried [Removed by Moderator] and doesn't work anymore.  I found [Removed by Moderator] which works but now they are closed since it's late and I'm in CA. I'll try that number again tomorrow. Good luck. Hope it works for both of us ;)
