Let me provide information on accessing QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2016 after updating to Big Sur.
The Big Sur 11.0 is under Beta testing. As indicated in the system minimum requirements, Big Sur is not yet compatible with QuickBooks for Mac 2020. This means that the software is not yet tested in this operating system. QuickBooks is designed to run on the final public release of the macOS version that is available at the time of development.
Because of this, some features may not run correctly. You'll want to go back to the old operating system while Big Sur is on its Beta version.
I can see how beneficial it would be for your business to be able to run your QuickBooks account properly. However, all QuickBooks Desktop for Mac programs are affected by this and won't work with Big Sur. We're working hard to make these compatible.
While we continue making improvements, I suggest visiting our reference page, which contains updates to the new enhancements of all QuickBooks Products every month: QB Firm of the Future.
Let me know if you have any other questions. I'll always be around to help. Wishing you and your business continued success!
So is this true that because I updated my OS on my Mac to Big Sur that I can no longer access my QB 2016 files????
Please help me understand what I need to do....
Angela
I appreciate you joining in this thread, AngelaGarnier.
You're right since QuickBooks for Mac 2016 is a discontinued and no longer supported version of QuickBooks.
This may affect the system requirements and compatibility with Apple's new macOS 11 Big Sur.
To get this working, you might want to reset the MAC OS update or upgrade your QuickBooks to keep you running smoothly. We recommend upgrading every three years to avoid service interruption.
Let's start with creating a backup copy of your company file so you can easily restore it in case of data loss. Once done, we can now start downloading the latest version of QuickBooks through the Download Center.
You'll want to check out our QuickBooks Mac articles if you need help. I'm sure they'll guide you in doing a specific task in the program.
We appreciate your patience while we're looking into this. If you need any other help with QuickBooks, I'll be right here to assist you. Have a nice day.
How can I create a back up when the program will not even open for me?
How can I create a back up when the program will not even run on my computer. It will not open at all.
Let me help you open your QuickBooks for Mac to create a backup, @tsterrette.
If you're using QuickBooks Mac 2021, we recently deployed a new update to make this version run on the new Big Sur system to successfully open the program. You can check this article for the steps on how to update your 2021 Mac version: Update QuickBooks for Mac to the latest release.
If you're using earlier supported versions, you'll want to revert the Big Sur update so you can open QuickBooks to create a backup.

In the meantime, you can visit this article from time to time for updates regarding the compatibility issue: Intuit’s support policy for QuickBooks for Mac running on macOS 11 Big Sur.

Feel free to get back to me if you have any other questions with the Mac version. I'll be around for you. Take care!
I would assume there is no resolution to this issue with Big Sur since I just upgraded yesterday and can no longer open QB2016 and there seems to be no way to upgrade this version of QB....
Is there any resolution in site as it appears (based on posts) even QB2021 isn't working under Big Sur..major miss from a major accounting software company.
I have backup copies of my QB files.
I cant access QB desktop on my computer.
Can I just reinstall QB from the original email onto my husband's computer and then open it from there?

Mac just released a new update for Big Sur, does this fix the problem with Quickbooks?
I'm here to help keep your QuickBooks for Mac running smoothly, itskate613.
To get you back up and running, updating your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac to its latest release is a good start when it comes to fixing program-related issues. This also helps to synchronize the updates.
Here's how:
The updates are only supported for 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 versions of QuickBooks. Hi, I have quickbooks 2021 desktop, for Mac. I am running Big Sur 11.0.1. My QB crashed repeatedly, and my computer got really slow, til I had to force quit. I spent an hour with Apple and an hour with QBs. My computer runs smoothly again, but in spite of deleting the app I bought in Dec, and reinstalling a newer version of QB, and following directions, the program is still malfunctioning. As soon as I click on online banking it toggles over to the checking register and freezes. What should I do?
Thanks for joining this thread, GeorgetteJump.
I understand how important the bank feeds as it helps in bringing in the transactions. I checked our record and found an investigation about the check register.
If you have been added to the investigation since you already reached out to our Support Team, you'll receive updates about it. You also want to contact them again and use INV-52396 as your reference.

I cannot enter transactions in the check register at all. As soon as I press record, I get the spinning wheel of death. I have the latest version of BigSur and Version 19.0.7.932 R8 of Quickbooks Desktop for Mac. Will I ever be able to enter transactions?
Thanks for joining this thread, @Cruella.
At this time, there is an ongoing investigation in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac about the Check register freezing when attempting to enter transactions.
While our product engineers are currently investigating this issue, in the meantime, you can use the Banking menu and select Make Deposits or Write checks to record these transactions.
Then, to be updated about the resolution and investigation updates, I suggest reaching out to our Technical Support team. They use specific tools to pull up your account and add you to the list of affected users. Once added, you'll now be notified via email. Here's how:
Also, to look for sources and helpful links you can use in the future, please visit our QuickBooks Help articles site. Simply enter a keyword of your concern on the search bar and the system will show related links you can use.
If there is anything else I can do to help you record your transactions in QuickBooks, please post a response below. I am always available to help in case you need it.
