I just received an email that says it's from QuickBooks Billing (it looks very authentic) with the subject line "Account Deactivation: What You Need to Know'. Here is some of the content:
Due to Non-QuickBooks update, Your QuickBooks Account will be Turned Off.
It has come to our attention that your QuickBooks is not syncing with the Intuit server, and as a result, it is not receiving necessary updates. Unfortunately, this issue will lead to the discontinuation of your QuickBooks service on the aforementioned date.
It then gives a phone number to call [removed by moderator].
I recently installed an update from QB for our desktop and I opened QB today and the Go Payment page with no problem. I just thought I would put this out there.
QB will never contact you for payment or account info. It is spam, for sure.
Someone from QB will probably post something in a bit about "Our emails end with..." . The thing they don't seem to understand is that PHISHING is a real thing, and can and will end the exact same way.
Ignore their post. It will only confuse you. Plus, a LOT of the QB employees seem to be in on all the fraud going on within the company. (There are posts and comments ALL over the community about it).
Best thing to do is mark it as spam, and ignore it.

I have received the same message several times. I hope I don't lose my information, because I didn't pay for the update. I have the desktop version.
I also received the same email and unfortunately did respond to it. I did End up sending them money to"fix" my program. They did upgrade me from my 2023 version to my 2024 version in the process, which made it seem all that more legitimate. Fortunately, it has not cleared the bank yet, so hopefully that will not become an ongoing issue. I have changed all of my passwords, but I sure feel like a fool. They got me at a bad personal time, which did not help my decision making processes.
@DMR21 You shouldn't feel too bad; while a lot of people think of tech bandits and other kinds of hackers out there when it comes to data breaches, it hardly ever is.
Most data breaches come down to social engineering, just as you experienced.
Doesn't help that most customer support has degraded to the point that people will jump at the chance to speak with a 'customer support agent' that even appears to care about your problems. Makes for an atmosphere where all the con artists have to do is appear pleasant.
Unfortunately they don't bother to educate users to avoid it. Make sure to secure your backup files (*.qbb) regularly. If at any time you cannot run the QB program, you can use the trial version to restore backup files. You can check the following reference

After I received this email, I did a search on the Internet where I found a good summary of how QB sends email and what to look for in the address. The email I received, that started this conversation, definitely was spam, with made-up intuit email. However, just for fun I called the phone number in the email which was answered by a voicemail message. I did not leave a message. BUT, someone called me back and said they were from Intuit. I quickly told them that I had figured out they were a spam organization. Felt good to hang up on them. I will say the response from the QB team here on the Q&A never addressed what to look for in an address.
