Which again I can not get info unless I PAY you more money! Got a free trial. Got the registry and I am just going to manually put it in fresh books which is a much more competent company! They speak English when you call so they can actually help you. Your CS reps don’t speak English. Just makes everything so much harder! Keep the money here in the USA where you make most of your money!! GOOD BYE QB!

Another option, purchase a 3rd party service to convert your data to FB.

I feel it is complete extortion for a company to be able to lock you out of 20 some odd years of your personal business data when you don't renew your subscription.

To me the disturbing part is not that they can but that they are purposely misleading people. We were told, "You will still have access to your QuickBooks data even without a subscription!" This post says exactly the same thing as "SLOVED!". What "SOLVED" needs to say is, "The data will always be yours but it is only useful with a subscription to QuickBooks Desktop as you will lose all access to use the software."

Message to Intuit: A Free Read-Only mode would be a real (and less dirt bagged) solution to this. Especially for us that moved to QB online!

Intuit is trying to trick people in to a false sense of security.

I ended my subscription update and now I am LOCKED OUT from my Company file.

I used to buy updates to the Desktop Quickbooks every couple years rather than spend the fortune for it every year.  A couple years ago I decided to subscribe to the update service.  Apparently that was a HUGE mistake!  Because now that the subscription is expired, I CAN NOT OPEN MY FILE.

I get a dialogue box that says my update subscription has expired and the file will not open.

If you have QB 2022 you can NO longer access your company file on a desktop version once your subscription expires, so the information above from support is wrong. I had to upgrade last year because of my payroll subscription, and the support rep this morning informed me that as of 2022 they only have subscription based software so you have to pay the fee each year. I had no choice but to pay it today as my data was being held hostage.

Does anyone out there have a software recommendation for a QuickBooks replacement? This will be my last year using QuickBooks...

I am a bookkeepiing business with many QB data files to access.  I have been looking for an alternative but honestly, I can't find anything that's both affordable and similar.  Has anyone else out there switched successfully to another desktop program?

Unless you are using QBD Enterprise, there is no viable program to replace QBD Pro/Premier/Mac. Convert to QB Online or other cloud-based applications and purchase a third-party conversion service.

Thanks for joining the thread, junedoneen.

I understand you're looking for low-cost products to assist you in running your bookkeeping business. I'll provide some details about this.

If you need to access multiple company files, QuickBooks Desktop is right for you. It would save you money because there isn't any limit to the number of company files you can access. I encourage you to visit our website for plans and pricing, as the cost of our QuickBooks product varies depending on the features included in that version: QuickBooks Desktop prices.

I recommend subscribing to our QuickBooks Online product if you want to access your company from anywhere. You will be able to access multiple companies using the same login credentials. However, each company has its own paid subscription. Check out this article for more details: Create or add another company file to QuickBooks Online.

In addition, anyone can switch from another QuickBooks Desktop software. Please keep in mind that if you upgrade to a higher version, you will no longer be able to open the company files to a lower version.

For future reference, I've added this resource to guide you in case you want to upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Enterprise.

You're welcome to post again if you have further questions about QuickBooks. I'll be around to help you.

WARNING! If you switch to QB Online and have any need to look at your local hosted QB file(s), you will still have to pay BOTH subscription fees to do so (online and desktop). You can migrate all the data to online to avoid this but if for instance you have 2 or 3 files from lets say prior years, records before a buy out, etc that you are used to accessing, you will WILL lose access to the desktop app. Don't be fooled when they say, "You will still have access to your files." This is true but you won't be able to read the files.

Sure, you can still access the data via ODBC but you absolutely lose access to open your company file in QuickBooks, which happened to me today. You MUST pay the subscription at full rate to continue accessing your data in QuickBooks. It is hundreds of dollars cheaper to repurchase the software. I would have done that, but also have a payroll subscription that I would have lost.

This is a major and expensive change of policy for desktop users. Clearly Intuit no longer cares to keep its small business customers.

I only use invoicing, pulling reports,

Nothing online.

Will this still work or do I have to go subcription

I'll provide some information about when you'll have to pay for your subscription, mgille.

With the launch of QuickBooks Desktop 2022, Intuit eliminated one-time user licenses. For now, all users will have to subscribe to an annual subscription plan, whether they use Pro, Premier, or Enterprise. If you're using the annual subscription plan, you'll have to make sure that you have an active subscription for you to use the company file.

On the other hand, for older versions of QuickBooks Desktop, we inform you in advance when they are scheduled to be discontinued. If you don't use any of the add-on services in QuickBooks Desktop 2019, your product will continue to work for you. But, you won't be able to subscribe to live technical support or any of the other Intuit services that be integrated with QuickBooks Desktop. Also, discontinued versions won't receive the latest security patches and updates.

Furthermore, once your subscription is already active, you can now connect your bank to QuickBooks. If this happens, learn how QuickBooks makes a match. I've added this article for more details: Add And Match Bank Feed Transactions In QuickBooks Desktop

You can always get back to us if you have any questions about invoicing or your subscription, We're always here to help you.

Which QB Desktop year version do you have?

Unhappycustomer

Agreed. I bought it for my new computer and did not even realize it was a yearly subscription. I have had QB for decades have given them thousands of dollars.  But this is the last penny.  No one will hold my life hostage.   If I don’t find one I will drop i10-20k if need be to have one made. QB lost its mind.  Some up high most be having trouble paying for their bad habits.  And doing way to much of it to think this was a good idea.  Over priced is one thing.  Cutting off access to my data. Not going to allow that.

I have QB15,  I have not used any support since I purchased the QB15

I didn't even realize that I was online with this version.  I picked desktop because I do not want to be online with any SAAS.

Won't my own security protect me?

Whether you are using QBD 2015 or QBD 2022, you must run an endpoint security to protect your machine.

We do but I keep getting message when I open my QB15 I am not going to be protected.   I DO NOT want my customer list hacked

I'm here to share some information about the security when using QuickBooks Desktop 2015, @mgille2.

QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2015 is no longer supported. This means that you no longer receive the latest security patches, and updates, and receive critical security updates. However, if you'll not be using Payroll Services, Live Support, Online Backup, Online Banking, and other services, you can still use your QBDT 2015. However, you can still use any third-party security app or firewall.

For detailed information about the add-on services that are no longer supported and critical security updates with your QBDT 2015, check out this article: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.

In case you'd like to switch to QuickBooks Online (QBO), check out the QuickBooks Online pricing page. Then, refer to this article on how to move your file to QBO: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have further questions about your QuickBooks Desktop account. I'm always here to answer them for you. Have a great rest of the day!
