Hi, Ola5. I'd like to share information about using a VPN to run QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE).
Accessing QBSE does not require you to use a VPN. As long as your internet connection is strong and your browser meets the system requirements, you should be able to access QuickBooks with no issues.
However, if you need to disconnect your VPN in the browser so the QuickBooks page will load, I suggest reaching out to your VPN server's customer support for further assistance. They can look into the setup of your browser or system in a secure environment and help you with signing in to QBSE while traveling.
In case you need to change your user ID, password, email address, or phone number, refer to this link for the complete steps: Update or change your Intuit Account sign-in information.
Reply in the comment section anytime if you have further queries about logging in to QBSE with a VPN. The Community will get back to you swiftly to lend a hand. Safe travels, Ola5!
The problem is the opposite.
I use a VPN (SurfShark) all the time. I can access all my financial accounts and the entire web with no problem, but I cannot login to QuickBooks while my VPN is connected. The login process just gives an error. I have to turn off my VPN to access QuickBooks which is unsafe and inconvenient. It's as if QuickBooks is blocking anyone using a VPN from logging in, which is ridiculous.
It's been this way for about 3 months and support did not take it seriously.
I'm using QB Self employed.
Hello, @Ola5.
Let me share some possible reasons why you cannot log in to QuickBooks while using the SurfShark VPN.
It's possible that the VPN server you're connected to restricts access to QuickBooks servers. This restriction can be due to the VPN provider's policy of blocking certain types of traffic, resulting in login failures due to geographical restrictions.
Another reason could be the VPN's firewall or security settings, which might be blocking access to QuickBooks' login page. I would recommend reaching out to SurfShark to ensure you have a compatible connection setup for accessing QuickBooks.
Additionally, if you've confirmed that QuickBooks is not restricted or blocked on your server, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Live Support Team. They have the necessary tools to investigate your account, can initiate a screen-sharing session to assist you further, and can create a case for this issue if required.

Hello -
I am having this same issue. Has this issue been resolved or how can I resolve it on Windows 11 Pro?
Thanks!
I appreciate you for joining the thread, @Ell95. Let me provide information for you to resolve the issue where you're unable to access QuickBooks servers while using a VPN.
To begin with, if you're connected to a VPN server, you may encounter restrictions in accessing QuickBooks servers. This restriction could be due to the VPN provider's policy of blocking certain types of traffic, leading to login failures because of geographical limitations. It's also possible that the VPN's firewall or security settings are preventing access to QuickBooks's login page. I recommend contacting your IT support to verify that your connection setup is compatible with accessing QuickBooks.
Moreover, I also suggest reaching out to SurfShark to have your setup checked. However, if you've confirmed that QuickBooks is not restricted or blocked in their server, I recommend contacting our support team. This way, they can further investigate what's causing this problem and guide you on a possible fix.
Here's how you can reach them:

Hi all! I wasn't able to use QuickBooks Online while connected through SurfShark either. I contacted SurfShark's Help chat, they reset a Protocol setting and it now works.
Thanks for the heads up. I've spent an hour and 40 minutes with SurfShark and they're so far unable to resolve it for me. Looking for a different VPN provider.
I have the same issue. Do you know what protocol they changed? Did you need to change something on your end, or did they have you change your settings?
@Clark_B- what protocol is supposed to work? I've now tried OpenVPN, both UDP and TCP, plus IKEv2 and Wireguard, and none of them work. I can't use QBO without going thru the VPN because I need the static IP it uses to link my bank account.
Maybe QB and SurfShark could just work together to hash out the problems since it's affecting multiple people.
The point of a VPN is that if someone is at home, the office, a hotel, or an airport, they can still access their accounts in a secure way. Not being able to log in with a VPN is a security risk.
