Why is my QuickBooks Online slow?
by Intuit•27• Updated 5 days ago
QuickBooks Online performance relies on browser efficiency, computer processing power, available memory (RAM), and internet bandwidth. A shortfall in any of these areas can cause slow load times or lag.
Performance benchmarks
Intuit expects the most-used pages in QuickBooks Online to load in approximately 10 seconds. Systems are continually monitored to ensure this goal is met.
Verify system requirements
To narrow down the cause of slow performance, ensure your computer or device meets the basic system specifications.
- Review the System requirements for QuickBooks Online
Optimize your browser
Intuit recommends using Google Chrome for the best experience. Older browsers or operating systems generally do not receive regular updates, which can negatively impact performance.
Update Google Chrome
- Open the Chrome menu.
- Select Help.
- Select About Google Chrome to ensure you are on the latest release.
Avoid private browsing
Intuit recommends that you do not use QuickBooks Online in "Incognito" or "private browsing" mode. Private browsing sessions do not store local data (cache/cookies). This causes all site elements to be fetched again with every page load, slowing down performance.
Check internet speed
Bandwidth limitations can restrict your QuickBooks Online experience. Note that shared internet connections and mobile connections may vary widely from their advertised speeds.
- Run a Google Speed Test to confirm your connection speed.
- Review the test results to determine if your bandwidth is sufficient.
Note: Running a speed test uses data and may result in data charges if applied to a mobile device.
