Separating Quickbooks account from Turbo Tax Account

I initially used the same login credentials for my work related Quickbooks account and my personal Turbo Tax account.  I did not realize the two accounts would be linked in one Intuit account.

I would like to separate the two with the goal in mind of when logging into my work Quickbooks account I would not be able to access my personal Turbo Tax account.

I have followed all of the recommendations from Quickbook representatives and also Turbo Tax representatives which was requesting an email change.  I have done that, but it has not resolved the issue.

I just received an email from Turbo Tax in my work related email address and was still able to access my personal Turbo Tax using my work related Quickbooks login and password.

There must be a way to "unlink" the two accounts after creating separate

Thanks for posting here, @ck2709,

When you subscribe to Intuit services using a single email address, the system will create one user ID for all logins. The only way to unlink your services is to use another email address that is different from the credential you used when you subscribe to us.

For the instructions on how to change your email for both services, see the following links:

I did that but it did not resolve the issue.  The Turbo Tax account can still be accessed with the previous login.

Separating Quickbooks account from Turbo Tax Account

Hello, @ck2709.

Thanks for following the steps provided by my colleague above. I'm here to contribute another workaround to unlink your Turbo Tax (TT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Let's create another Intuit account to unlink the two accounts. Let me show you how:

  1. On the Intuit accounts page, click the Create an account link.
  2. Enter a new email address and phone number.
  3. Type a new password, then confirm it.
  4. Tap Create Account
  5. Verify the email address.

See the sample screenshot below for your reference:

For more information, check out this article: Create an Intuit user account.

After that, you can change either your TT or QBO credentials by following the articles presented above.

Once done, you can now login to your accounts with their appropriate login credentials.

But if the issue persists, I'd advise communicating with our Technical Support. They have tools to investigate the main reason why you're unable to unlink the accounts.

Please ensure to call them within business hours to guarantee we address your concern promptly.

I've also added articles about FAQs in Intuit account and handling company information.

Feel free to let me know if the issue continues, so I can also find other options. I'm always around to help you. Keep safe!

I have already done that.  The problem is when I log into my Quickbooks work account, even though I have created a separate account with a different email and user ID - I can still access my personal Turbo Tax when logging into my work account.  Turbo Tax is still linked.

I have already done that but it still did not remove Turbo Tax from my work login account.

Separating Quickbooks account from Turbo Tax Account

I have tried all the suggested resolutions in this thread - NOTHING WORKS.

I have called Customer Care every day this week. I have spoken to several Customer Care representatives, some are unable to even comprehend the issue let alone provide a solution. At this point, I know more about linked accounts than members of the Customer Care team.  What is going on here?

Why hasn't Quickbooks provided a solution to this extremely important issue that threatens the privacy and security of Quickbooks user accounts?

This needs to be addressed ASAP.

I too have the same issue.  I sold the company that QuickBooks supported and I can’t separate it?   It is hard to believe a technology company like Intuit had not considered this important capability in their product design!

Separating Quickbooks account from Turbo Tax Account

I went through this same issue because I created a QB account from my personal Intuit account I use for my TurboTax. I spent hours yesterday trying to unlink the accounts only to be told it could not be done and to simply export the data from the QB and send it to my former employer so they could create their own account to use for their business. I was doing contract work two years ago for my brother and he needed me to prepare reports for his CPA to do his taxes and in a short amount of time. I started using my personal account then and now two years later, no longer employed at my brother's firm. I received the email from turbo tax explaining this can't be done. They submitted a business license and drivers license for one of the businesses I did books on my account for and QB gave them ownership of my Inuit account. I spent 2.5 hours on the phone today walking through this with support from when I started this account and used it for my personal taxes until now. I showed them that my former employer now has access to my personal taxes and another business I did contract work for. This is a violation of my personal information and most private financial data. The people they GAVE my account to have now changed the information and I am locked out of my MY ACCOUNT. When I walked thru the steps to get my account back from them, there is not an option to choose to explain Turbo Tax has breached their privacy agreement and shared my financials. I am livid and won't let this go. You need to fix the glitches that allow this to happen and you need to fix your website that makes it so easy for someone to literally steal someones account. You made it easy for them and now difficult for me to get my own account back.

This is the email Intuit sent me. Notice the name on the account they say another personal was able to prove they own. You need to do some work on that Review Process Intuit!

Dear Sonya,
We have made a change in ownership to the account Sonya [removed]. We were contacted by another person who asserted that they are the rightful owner of this account. They have submitted documentation to us to verify ownership, and it passed our review process. Therefore, that person has been granted Master Administrator access rights to the account, and you are no longer the Master Administrator. We take these changes very seriously. If you believe this change was made in error, or have any follow up questions, feel free to contact us at [removed].
Sincerely,
Intuit Customer Support

I want to help as much as I can, however pulling up your account isn't an option here in the Community forum, sonyabarnard.

To ensure you're able to claim back the account, I'll let you contact our QuickBooks Online Live Team. They'll be able to verify who contacted and changed the master admin on file.

You may also prepare the documents needed to claim ownership. Then, request to be the primary admin by completing the form through this article: Learn how to request to be the primary admin or contact for a QuickBooks account.

Let me know how the contact goes by replying to this thread. I'll be right here to help. I hope you'll get access to your QuickBooks account again.

This is great, just keeps getting better. I can't login to my QB community under my sonyabarnard user id because you gave them my account and they have removed me from using it. I had to create a new user id to respond to your message. I can't login to the QB account, they have deleted me from my account. I'm able to login to the Intuit and TurboTax sill because they haven't figured out they have the ability to delete that too I'm sure.

Th link you sent me takes me to a QB Live Team which I cannot access because I CAN'T LOGIN TO MY ACCOUNT. YOU HANDED IT OVER TO MY FORMER EMPLOYER. I HAVE NO WAY TO GET IT BACK UNLESS UNTIL I GET A COURT ORDER. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

How did the person who reviewed the account for them think they owned an account that was created by a person, not a business, to do personal taxes and then added QB on their own. I didn't add it when I was employed for this business you gave it to. I was working for my brother as an independent contractor. The business name has changed twice. I am the one who entered the business information into the QB account so it would show up on the reports I provided to them. THE ACCOUNT NEVER CHANGED OWNERSHIP. IT WAS MINE AND NOW I CAN'T ACCESS THAT QB ACCOUNT BUT THEY CAN ACCESS MY ALL MY PERSONAL FINANCIALS.

Your website makes int IMPOSSIBLE for me to get this resolved quickly. I've already spent 5 hours on the phone and the support I spoke to stated they have absolutely no doubt I owned this account but because THEY provided documentation to someone at QB who reviewed it, approved what they were looking at, and transferred the ownership to THEM; I'm not having to wait until Monday to get a court order. They've already removed me from the account and changed all the login info, etc. You all really messed this up.
