The "NEW" advanced find search feature in QBO is unavailable on one of my users computers. Did it get turned off? Is there a way to turn it back on?

Welcome to the Community, chuck.

I know how convenient it is to have the Advanced Search feature in QuickBooks Online (QBO), and I'm here to ensure that you'll get to use it again.

The browser can occasionally be poorly configured, which leads to issues. I suggest opening a different browser or a private window to isolate the issue. Here's how to activate incognito mode in some of the most common online browsers:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

If you finally get to see the Advanced Search feature again, it's safe to say that the browser has caused it. This can be fixed by clearing your cache and cookies.

Moreover, I'll also include this link where you can search for articles that can serve as your reference in managing your QBO account: QBO Help Articles.

Don't hesitate to leave a reply if you require further assistance with using features in QBO. The Community team always has your back. Have a good one.

We tried the above fixes with no luck. I discovered that neither of my other users have access to that feature, even giving them full access. The pink "NEW" is missing from the advanced search button when logged in with their usernames.

Thanks for dropping by the Community, Chuck.

I agree with how beneficial the Advanced search feature is to businesses to improve the way of locating transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Since the issue persists after performing the suggested steps above, it's best to get in touch with our customer support. This way, they can initiate a screen-sharing session with you in a safe environment to identify what's causing the missing feature.

To do that:

  1. Go to the Help icon and select the Search tab.
  2. Click Contact us.
  3. Enlighten us with your issue and select Continue.
  4. Choose between Chat with us or Have us call you.

In addition, we can pull up several reports in QBO to get an overview of your business transactions. They offer critical information about your company and display its financial status.

Please don't hesitate to reply if you have other questions about the Advanced search feature. We'd be glad to address your concerns.

Figured it out calling support. The other two users were set up as regular users. Went into  edit the user in the user list and changed to admin. Now the search feature shows up.

Thanks for the update, chuck@hancocktoo.

We are so glad to hear that the problem was fixed by making the regular user an admin. Please know that you can always post here if you have a question about QuickBooks. We are happy to help you at any time, day or night.

I am the Primary Admin and NEW Advanced Search doesn't work for me. It automatically works for all new subscriptions but it doesn't work for several old subscriptions that I have access to.

I was told 18 months ago that it would "soon" be rolled out to all subscriptions, but all this time later, and I still don't have the function built-in.

I can jump directly to the URL for advanced search and it works, but that obviously prevents me from using the "NEW" advanced search within the QBO Advanced App because you can't go to a URL with that app.

This is not the impression we want you to experience, jbbehar.

QuickBooks Online (QBO) made a bunch of changes to the interface to give you a better experience and modified a lot of things to make it more user-friendly. The "NEW" advanced search is only available when accessing your QBO account on the web. To learn more about our new functionality of Advanced Search, check out this article: Search for transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Also, the Advanced Search feature no longer includes the ability to search by description. However, there's an option for you to revert to the old interface. Here's how:

  1. At the top right corner click the Magnifying icon
  2. Below the pop-up window click the Advanced Search.
  3. At the top right click Go to classic Advanced Search.

Once you're in the Classic Advanced Search, let me show you how to search for transactions using the description. Below the All Transaction Lines section, you'll find an option to select Line Description. In the third rectangular box, you can enter the description you want to search for. This will allow you to find the transactions based on their descriptions.

If the option still doesn't appear, let's open your QuickBooks account in a different browser or private window to rule out any browser-related issues. Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge: Ctrl+ Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

If this works, return to your regular browser and clear your cache. Occasionally, the accumulated cache and cookies in the system can become outdated or corrupted, leading to unexpected behaviors. Additionally, you can switch to other supported browsers that are already installed, which is also a good alternative.

Moreover, in QuickBooks Online, you can run various reports and personalize them to gain insight into your business transactions.

You can connect with me again if you need further clarification regarding the advanced search feature. Just click the reply button below, and I'll get back to you.

I meticulously followed the recommended steps and have no change in the outcome.

The new search is simply not available. I even tried on a different computer (a sandbox) and had no changes.

I recognize how convenient the NEW Advanced Search feature is for your research process, @jbbehar. Let me chime in and provide more information about it.

The NEW Advanced Search feature is currently only available to new subscribers. Thus, you've encountered difficulties accessing the option despite following the recommended steps diligently since it isn't supported for old subscribers yet.

Concerning the information shared with you 18 months ago, please know that we don't have a specific timeframe for when it will become available to all users.

Leaving legacy loyal customers behind because someone doesn’t feel like enabling a feature toggle is just the beginning of what’s wrong with this comment.

the promise of SaaS applications is losing its luster because of this type of selective application of features. It’s beyond ridiculous and actually fragments the ability for us to support our end users on their subscriptions if they have features we don’t have experience using ourselves.

respectfully while you’ve probably been instructed to give such an off putting reply it should bother you too. Please escalate this matter to someone that cares enough to actually help.

I don't have a HELP button so can't access any assistance. I even tried calling the sales number listed and it's not a working number from Hawaii. I really need to talk with a real person to change Administrators to our account.

This latest reply is equal to getting slapped in the face. I know what the difference is between the searches. Again, saying that an old subscription doesn't get a new feature is incredibly painful to hear as a customer.

I can't imagine culturally how this is acceptable to anybody ever.

Hi there, Sharon.

Let me help you route to support and share insights about changing administrator.

Before anything else, I'd like to know what's your QuickBooks subscription why you don't have the Help tab. In the meantime, you can click this link so you can call and reach them: Can't get signed in?

The current primary admin should sign in to transfer the primary admin role. If the current primary admin is no longer with the company, you can request to be the primary admin. Here’s how to transfer the role to an existing user:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as the current primary admin. If you can’t sign in, you can recover your user ID or password.
  2. Select Settings ⚙.
  3. Select Manage users.
  4. Find the user you want to make the primary admin.
  5. In the User Type column, make sure they are listed as Admin. If they’re not, select Edit to change their role to admin.
  6. Select the small arrow ▼ in the Action section. Then, select Make primary admin.
  7. Select Make primary admin again to confirm the change.
  8. Sign out of QuickBooks.

For more details, check out this article: Change the primary admin user in QuickBooks Online.

You might want to update or change your Intuit sign info. Feel free to read this article: Update or change your Intuit Account sign-in information.

Feel free to come back here if you have additional questions about managing your account. I'll be willing to help. Keep safe.

Respectfully this thread is about NEW advanced search being missing and denied to existing subscribers and was unceremoniously hijacked into some nonsense about a help button.

Can someone of authority please get involved here??

Frustrated!!!

The "NEW" advanced find search feature in QBO is unavailable on one of my users computers. Did it get turned off? Is there a way to turn it back on?

I understand all about slow rollouts, A/B testing, etc., but this is unprecedented. New people get ease of use features and old subscribers that are loyal are stuck with the old stuff that is not as useful.

Two plus years stuck waiting. Simply not right. Turn it on already - it is definitely not reverting to the old search so what's the problem with turning on the new even as it gets improved?
