Unable to set up a local daily backup.

I am using QB Premier 2020 with Win10.

I am currently running Intuit Data Protect to backup my company file daily.  Unfortunately, I have been told, IDP will only be available to me for a few more months, since my version of QB will "no longer be supported".

Therefore I need to find an alternative backup solution.  I have been trying for several months to Create a Local Backup that works, to no avail.  I have contacted QB tech support numerous times to try to resolve the issue.  I even went as far as accepting the paid support to try to resolve the problem.  They couldn't figure it out either.

I know exactly how to set it up.  I have tried editing the backup plan several times.  I've deleted it and started over numerous times.  Each time when I have to Browse to the company file (company file name.qbw) I am unable to browse to the correct location.

The Company File is located at:

C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\Quickbooks\Company Files\(Company File Name).qbw

The problem I have is the actual company file, is a file, not a folder.  The closest folder name is:

C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\Quickbooks\Company Files\(Company File Name).qbw.SearchIndex

That folder doesn't work.

Hopefully someone has an idea how to solve the problem

Thanks

Unable to set up a local daily backup.

Hi d.riseberg!

I know how important to create a backup company file. Allow me to assist you with it.

First, please know that the QuickBooks Desktop 2020 is still fully supported. The version that will be discontinued is the QuickBooks Desktop 2019 after May 31, 2022.This means that you can continue using the IDP or Intuit Data Protect with your QuickBooks Desktop Premier 2020.

Please check these articles to learn more about IDP:

With regard to the daily local backup, there's an investigation about the scheduled ones. For now, it's best to manually back up your file. Before you do that, make sure that your QuickBooks Desktop is updated and run the Verify and Rebuild Data tool to fix any issue with your company file.

Follow these steps on how to back up your company file manually:

  1. Go to the File menu and select Switch to Single-user Mode.
  2. Go back to the File menu again, hover over Back up Company and select Create Local Backup.
  3. Select Local Backup and then Next.
  4. Click Browse and select where you want to save your backup company file.
  5. Tap OK, then select Save it now and Next.

I've also included this article if you need help in running financial reports: Understand reports. This includes links on how to customize and memorize them.

Unable to set up a local daily backup.

I am currently set up to do an automatic backup every time I shut down QB.  I also, because the scheduled backups don't work, do a manual backup about once a week.

Based on some of the threads I've been reading, it appears this has been an issue for quite some time, with no remedy in sight.

Currently, I also use another cloud based backup service, to backup my entire computer on a daily basis.  It also includes my QB company file, as a .qbw.  I know, if the need arises, I can restore my company file from a .qbw file.

Since the scheduled backups don't work, I need to be sure that as I make entries in QB, the .qbw company file is changing along with it.  That way, at its worse case scenario, I would only be 1 day off, if I need to restore from the cloud.  If that is, in fact, the case, then I would have no need for IDP.
