Join nowHi, lenaraiwa1.
You'll want to make sure that you have installed the latest version of the Windows Operating system on your computer so you can successfully convert to QuickBooks Desktop. Let me provide you a list of system requirements that limits your export.
Exporting data to the QuickBooks Desktop from the QuickBooks Online requires the latest version of Internet Explorer 11. You can export data from QuickBooks Simple Start Online to QuickBooks Simple Start Desktop version 2004 and 2005 only. You won’t be able to export to the 2006 version or any other newer version.
Additionally, You can easily export data from your QuickBooks Online to the QuickBooks Basic 2004 Release 5 or the newer version released. You're unable to export data from the previous versions.
Also, you'll have to perform some extra steps if exporting data to the Non-Profit premier version or any other retail editions.

Hi there Maria,
Thanks for the reply. couple of things
-i am running the most recent version of windows 10
- I am running the most recent version of internet explorer 11, with the active x plugin installed and recognized, and the setting adjusted to allow pop up windows, add intuit.com to safe sites and several other settings adjustments as recommended by intuit forums.
- I have quickbooks pro 2020
my issue is that when I have quickbooks( open as administrator) with the company files closed and I, click on the convert button after having downloaded the file to my computer already(via internet explorer, also opened as administrator), Instead of having a page pop up for accepting a certificate, a window pops up in Quickbooks desktop that says
"Sign in to company file successful.
|
and this stays after i login and the dialogue box in QBD dissappears.
So my question is how to I correctly get the file to convert? Thanks for your time
Hi, lenaraiwa1.
Let me help you go over to your file and have it converted. The possible reason you've encountered this error message is that you may have a window open in QuickBooks that is waiting for a response.
To resolve this, you'll want to return to QuickBooks and close any dialog boxes. However, since you don't see any open dialog boxes, I suggest closing all the running programs on your computer and try again.
If the issue persists, I recommend rebooting your computer and update QuickBooks to its latest release version.
Here's how:
You can get more details about this in this article: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

Hi Rose,
Thanks for the response. yes the issue is that instead of launching whatever it is that QBD is supposed to, it opens a dialog box and requires me to sign into the account. once I sign in, the box goes away, but the conversion does not continue. if i then click on convert again a few minutes later, it opens the same log in dialogue box. and nothing happens again when repeating the process.
i already added the QB certificate that is required by following directions found elsewhere on the intuit site.
so my question is why is this login window appearing, in all the videos that i have seen of people doing this, the window doesnt appear.

Hello there, lenaraiwa1,
The migration process requires you to open both QuickBooks Online (QBO) and QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). This could be the reason why you're asked to log into your Intuit account.
Let's start over by using browsers supported by QBO. And, ensure you have the operating system, hardware, software, and other requirements to run QBDT 2020. Feel free to read through these articles for more details:
Once done, make sure to follow each step outlined below to ensure a smooth export.
How to move data:
Step 1: Set up security settings in Internet Explorer.
Step 2: Set up QuickBooks Desktop for the export.
Step 3: Prepare to export your QuickBooks Online data.
Step 4: Finish exporting your data.
Step 5: Verify your info exported correctly.
Step 6: (Optional) Cancel QuickBooks Online.
For detailed steps, check out the Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop link to get instructions and screenshots.
Let me how this goes by tagging my name, and I'm glad to help ensure your success.
Thank you and stay safe!
Hi Mary,
Thanks for your reply, if you read back to my earlier responses, I have already done all the steps listed, and have watched several videos as well of people who have successfully managed to import the data.
I just tried again by
double checking the settings in IE11 to be the same as in the link you provided.
opened IE11 as admin
opened QBD2020 as admin
closed the company file
selected edit list from the company selection box and hid the company so there are no companies in the list.
downloaded the file from Intuit
clicked convert now
now i recieve a new message- Quickbooks already has a company file open if you want to open another company file close this one first.
but there is no file open. and the are no files on the select file dialog box.
how can i fix that error?
Thanks.

We want your file converted, Lenaraiwa1.
Good work for doing the necessary troubleshooting steps. Since you're still unable to open the data in the Desktop version, I'd suggest reaching out to our customer care support. This way, an agent can take a better look at your data. Here's how:
Once the data is converted, you'll have to compare the Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet reports of both software. This way, we'll know if there are missing transactions.
