Turn off multi factor verification

Add me to the list of people who don't want this feature, and do not want two-step either.  Put both available to toggle - even have them on by default - but allow us to turn off both if we choose.  Make us sign a waiver, whatever, but just get it done.  You're making your customers angry and it's getting difficult to be civil about this because you clearly seem incapable or unwilling to understand our needs.

Turning off 2FA does not disable this feature. I have to verify images and get a security code via text Every. Single. Time. I log in. It's infuriating and a waste of time. Please disable this feature on my account. I don't need any explanation about 2FA. I know exactly what it is. If you're going to have this feature, let my verification cycle be valid for a month, not on a per-session basis. This is ridiculous and you're going to lose customers over this stupidest of reasons. Please stop with the form responses and solve the problem.

Let me make sure everything clear about the added security feature for your QuickBooks account.

 

Multi-factor authentication is a security enhancement on top of your usual password requirement. This is a ONE-TIME verification where-in you will receive confirmation code if ever you will be logging in to a new device.

 

On the other hand, the Two-step verification is also an added layer of security in which you will also receive a confirmation code each time you access your account.

 

That being said, turning off the Two-step verification will enable the usual multi-factor authentication.

I've turned off 2FA. It still verifies me every time with images and a texted code. Turning off 2FA in the settings doesn't do anything. This is the problem. It keeps verifying me on every single login, no matter how recently I've verified myself. We're talking minutes apart here. We've all listened to and followed the instructions provided throughout this conversation. There's obviously a bug here that needs to be addressed.

We understand. We know how to turn off two-step verification. What we want to turn off is multi-step verification. All we want is password verification, nothing else. I suspect that none of the Intuit people who have posted here know how to do that. I also suspect there is no way for a user to turn it off. So Intuit should get rid of the default multi-step verification, and let the users who want two-step verification turn it on for themselves.

I really don't like it when a vendor presumes to know how I ought to run my business.

I'm here to share additional steps on how to turn off multi-factor verifications when logging into QuickBooks Online (QBO). 

 

In QBO, we don't have an option to disable the CAPTCHA and email verification code. But I'd be glad to share a few insights about this.

 

CAPTCHA and email verification code isn't based on IP address but based on the browser. If you log into your account to a different browser; CAPTCHA and an email verification code will be asked.

 

Also, if the browser is set to "do not remember history", every time you log in to your account it will ask for CAPTCHA and email validation code.

 

Since CAPTCHA is from your internet browsers, I recommend reading this article to know how to remove CAPTCHA verification in your browser: How to Remove Captcha-Verification.systems Pop-ups [Chrome, Firefox, IE, Edge].

That's easy, jonesq. 

 

If you don't want to enter verification codes and go through the process, you can turn it off.

 

  1. If you're logged in to your QuickBooks Online account, click the profile icon at the upper-right, next to the Gear icon, or sign in to your Intuit account.
  2. Click Manage your Intuit Account
  3. From the left menu, select Sign In & Security.
  4. In the Two-step verification section, select Turn off.
  5. Enter the code, then select Continue.

As mine is also turned off and it still prompts me to do it. The only way i can get a code is thru email. This is not always a option. We all understand the reason for having this but it doesn't work. This is a big inconvenience to me and others. So fix it asap or get rid of it.

Since you're still prompt to enter a code after turning off the two-factor authentication feature, this time, let's try opening your account in a private (incognito) window. Using a safe browser and accessing the program from there can usually fix the issue.

 

Check out these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Command + Shift + N (Safari)
  • Ctrl+ Shift + N (Google Chrome)
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Mozilla Firefox) 

From there, try to turn off the two-factor authentication again. For more information about the process, see this article: Turn on or turn off two-step verification.

 

However, if the issue persists, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. They have the tools to check your account and verify the root cause of the problem. To reach them, click the ? This is maddening. Intuit costs me time and money every time a customer walks away without paying because I can't open QBO. Intuit employees clearly do not read the string. The same useless information abut 2-factor authentication has been pasted into this thread over and over.

READ THIS, INTUIT: I want multi-factor authentication turned off entirely. Anyone who wants 2-factor can always turn it on.

If you post that BS about turning off 2-factor authentication again, I will flame you unmercifully.

Mirriam is on to something here. I am able to log in without verification inside a Chrome incognito window. I had to turn 2-step verification on, then off (also within an incognito window, logging off after each step) to accomplish this. I have not been able to replicate it in a regular Chrome window, even after logging out of Chrome and clearing cookies and cache. Anyone else care to try?

HELP THIS IS DRIVING ME MAD. I JUST WANT TO LOG INTO MY ACCOUNT WITHOUT HAVING TO PUT IN A CODE EVERY GOD TIME. 

YES I have tried clearing cache and cookies.

YES I have tried incognito window log in once.
YES I have tried changing user name

YES I have tried turning two factor authentication on and off again (even tho it was off in the beginning)

 

I appreciate security measures but this is just TIME WASTING.

I am in the same boat. I have to switch between different intuit accounts depending on which of my clients I am working on. I have to enter these authentication codes dozens of times a day. I have two factor authentication turned off. It's maddening.

This feature is an additional layer that boosts the security of your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account. If the security layer is less needed, then you have the option to turn it off. 

 

If you use the same phone number, please follow these steps:

 

  1. Sign in to your Intuit account.
  2. Tap Sign In & Security from the left menu.
  3. In the “Two-step verification” section, hit Turn off.
  4. Enter the code.
  5. Select Continue.

 

If you're using a different phone number, make sure to update your phone number first so you can log in to the account. Once done, turn off the two-step verification.

My two-step verification is turned off. I still have to enter a code from my phone EVERY single time I login to Intuit. I think it's because as an accountant, I have several different email addresses that I use to access different clients' intuit products. There must be some cookie or something that is overriding the two-step verification setting. I use at least three different email addresses to access Intuit. All three have the two-step verification turned off. But I still have to complete the two-step verification and the captcha every time. If I'm idle (say on the phone with a client) with Quickbooks Online open, it will boot me, so I lose all of my windows, and then have to do the two-step to get back in. It's unprofessional, an issue that Intuit knows exists, and these help boards insist on parroting the same ineffective remedy. I would have left it alone, but somehow Intuit emailed me this thread just now, which is also infuriating since it has the same lousy answer.

I am just as mad about this as you are. At this point I feel as if the customer service reps are copying and pasting the same instructions just to piss us off. Im beginning to question my decision going with quickbooks in general.

The instructions that are posted on this subject do not work.  There is no "button" to turn OFF the 2 step verification!  There is a button to turn it off and there is a CANCEL button but nothing i have clicked on under my Intuit account fixes this problem.  This is the most frustrating feature I have encountered in Quickbooks Online - I use remote access to our company's Quickbooks online and if I walk away for a half hour, I get kicked off and have to sign back in.  It is so annoying and I can find nothing to fix it.

I am just as frustrated with everyone else about this but I think I may have somewhat solved the problem. (Although QuickBooks should solve the problem for everyone with what I am sure is a simple programming change.) I have two companies that I constantly have to log in and out of. I used the Firefox browser and so far I have been able to go back and forth between the two without entering a texted code. I don't know how long I can go without it but this is at least an improvement for now. I am putting this here in case someone else can be helped just a little by this.

following the instructions, my verification is already off, but I have to endure the verification process.  So this is not a fix, I guess QB needs to fix their solution.

I think I've found the solution to this annoying problem

 

By default, the setting for 2FA is "Off" but QBO annoyingly asking to enter 6 digit code via SMS or email still.

 

What I did was; I turned on the 2FA, have it completely setup. Then I turned it off again. After that QBO no longer asked for 6 digit codes. Just username & password after that.
