What do I need to do/know to switch over from QBO to desktop?

I'm here to provide the things you need before switching over to QuickBooks Desktop, tiffany34.

You need to know what operating system, hardware, software, and other requirements to run QuickBooks Desktop. Check out this link to find out what your computer needs: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2021.

Once done, you can purchase and download the program by following these steps:

  1. Download and install QuickBooks Desktop on your computer.  If you don't have a license to QuickBooks Desktop, you can download a trial to use for this process.
  2. Launch QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Go to File and select Close Company.
  4. Leave QuickBooks Desktop open while you complete the rest of the steps.

You can then follow Step 2 - 6 on this article: Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

Please know that some data won't convert, here's a list for your guidance: Limitations when you convert from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

Now, you're ready to get started with QuickBooks Desktop.

Stay in touch with me if there's anything else you need about this. Just tag my name, and I'll get back to you.

We operate on a Mac operating system.  How do I know if we need the Pro version or not?

What do I need to do/know to switch over from QBO to desktop?

Thanks for getting back to me, tiffany34.

I'm here to share some information about switching from QuickBooks Online (QBO) to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac.

There's only one version for QuickBooks Mac Desktop. And, here's how to install and set it up.

To successfully switch from QBO to Mac, you'll first need to export the file to QBDT Windows. Download the free trial of the Windows version to proceed.

Then, use again the Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop link to move your data. Once all set, you can start converting the company file to Mac.

Let me show you how:

  1. Open the company file in QBDT for Windows.
  2. Re-sort lists, then rebuild and verify your data file.
  3. After that, go to File menu at the top, then pick Utilities and Copy Company File for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac on the drop-down.
  4. Save it and it'll create a file with the extension MAC.qbb.
  5. Copy it to a DVD, external hard drive, flash drive, or FTP web site.

Once done, restore the file in QBDT for Mac. Here's how:

  1. In the No Company Open window, click Browse, then locate the file you want to restore.
  2. Select OK when you get the prompt asking if you want to restore a QuickBooks Desktop for Windows file and enter a name.
  3. Choose Save.

Please let me know how it goes or if I can be of additional assistance. I'm only a few clicks away if you have any follow-up questions. Take care and have a great rest of the day!
